Arcade Flyer Art Saturday: Dark Adventure

In 1987 Konami produced a three player adventure game called Dark Adventure. Players could choose between three charcters: Labryna, a gal who carries a sword and fights in a pink dress; Zorlock, a white suited gentlemen wielding a spear; and finally, Condor, an Indiana Jones rip off who uses a whip to get his point across. Our intrepid adventurers must fight their way through the Demon kingdom to eventually take down the King of the Demons. Enemies encountered along the way are your standard horror game fare: rats, giant spiders, skeletons and various creepy monsters. Power ups such as Magic Power, Laser Guns, Flamethrowers, Shields, Dynamite, Speed-Ups and Food help the group along the way through forty different levels to their eventual battle royale. After the party beats the game they return home to party atop the Statue of Liberty. No, I'm not kidding...

I always love these flyers with photographed images, there's just something so trashy about them. They always have this air of being thrown together at the last minute with whatever they could find at the thrift store using people around the office as models. This one seems to be a little bit above the rest and actually has a set with live animals. Along with the snakes and the monkey we get the boss' secretary, the janitor and an intern assaying the role of the games' three heroes. Once again we are treated to large, crispy eighties hair that is the hallmark of this era. Add in a spooky skeleton some skulls, a little dirt and a tattered dress and you've got one of the best crappy flyers ever to grace AFAS.
