Unless you are blind or a first-time visitor, you perhaps noticed a bit of a redesign here at Kotaku Tower. The new look of the place is slicker, packs much more information in and gives you, the reader, some front page face time in the form of comment excerpts. Clicking on any of those stories will still get you the bigger image and the more familiar look of a post. You also might notice that there's a nifty little profile strip across the top of the page if you're logged in. Nifty huh? Let us know if you have any bug issues with the new site and we'll get right on it. No, we're not going back. Yes, you will learn to love it. :)

Kotaku got botox'd.
LOVE IT.
.... hmm i don't know. it actually kinda scared me. I'll try to love it though dammit....
Redesign?! Nooooooooooooo!
Nice
@Fadakar: Shhh. We're with you! It's okay. BREATHE.
I won't consider anything you guys do a redesign until you change the horrid color scheme.
i like it
I thought the style sheets were messed up at first, but now I know it's intentional I kinda like it :)
@McWhertor: So hard, the air, clenching, losing focus.....gah.
I really really really, don't like it :(
nifty?? more like long overdue :P
front page looks fine, but the comments page is weird
yeah, def different, but it looks much cleaner to me and feel much more scannable than our previous layout.
I hate it.
I like the new look and miss the old one at the same time :) and :(
@Fadakar: Damn it! You never gave up on anything in your life SO DON'T START NOW!!!
Not bad, but the pictures are kind of small now.
Looking good so far. My only complaint is that it makes the site look barren compared to what it used to look like. I'll get used to it though.
I'm still undecided on it. I like some parts and dislike others.
@Kotaku: I wish I could quit you. :(
At first I thought the page loaded wrong when I refreshed. It'll take some getting used too, but it is undoubtedly slick.
Not to mention 1/3 of my screen isn't being used and when trying to read feels like I need to tilt my head to the left.
It's overall harder/more annoying to read, seriously, if you're not going back considering going one step forward to something that actually improves the site.
yeah the pictures are small and i hate having to look to the right to see who posts a comment but its sad that i knew who some of the posters were just from the pictures.... overall though looks nice
Shit redesign, Change it back.
I liked the old front page better but I like the new comments page a lot better. So, I like everything!!!
It looks nice and slik although the comments section was better before.
hmm interesting, still not sure on it, but hey it will grow on me i hope
do not like!
why are you making us click more just to see the whole story or link to the story?!
The area to the right with the date and the writer's name looks weird how it is placed. Maybe justify it in the center or at the top of the article instead of the bottom.
@McWhertor: The light, oh god, it's so close....Ugh...
Horrible site layout. Please change it back. It's so unprofessional and sloppy. Seriously.
Things look nice, in a counter-intuitive "I miss the old one" way.
Comments are nicer, albeit shrunk. The front page screams at me in its icky-ness though.
I'm torn on it. It looks generally cleaner (though the left sidebar and background don't really mesh IMO), but I have a few minor quirks. The profile bar at the top is really easy to miss...maybe make it slightly larger and darken the background for it to make it more noticable. The comments after posts are a little jarring. I'd rather see the name and timestamp under the pic. Overall though, good redesign. Looks cleaner.
This is the same as the new layout on Giz...I didn't like it there, and I don't like it here...
Except names (way) on the side which is weird, its kinda cool
Not a fan, but the layout isn't what I'm here for anyway. Did I hear there was going to be punch and pie?
I like the new layout. More space efficient, more consistent across different types of posts. Of course there are some that fear change, but making a controversial changes is better than never making one at all.
I don't really like it...
I like it, I won't be searching, by who and when the post has been made, anymore. But I think the word limit, before the jump should be bigger... Looks like we'll have to jump to read every news... and that's kinda lame in my opinion.
meh... figured this was inevitable when Gizmodo switched a few days ago. IMO game and gadget sites need their big pics. I wish there were just selectable skins.
Bad.
OH GOD! Why do nerds have to hate everything new?!
I was surprised to see this isn't a Gawker-wide redesign though. SKANDEL
I hate it, I really really do. It looked quasi blog format before which was a big drawing point for me, I chuckled at the jokes and read the articles. Now it just looks like another slashdot/msnbc or whatever organized 'news' site.
I guess some of you guys like it, but I liked the older way better, made Kotkau seem more 'authentic'.
This update happened while I was looking at some older posts, and I thought my browser was complaining about overexertion again...!
Looks good so far. I like the recent comment sampling and finally having the author tagged on the post (rather than in the post).
Wonder how the new design will hold up when Crecente makes another of his scavenger-type contests...?
I liked it the other way.... No offence I like the effort but I just dont think im going to get used to how it is now. :(
I said it once and I'll say it again. The new site sucks. Please change it back.
It's not 'Slickererer' or 'Slicker' it's just ugly, un-professional, and cheap looking. And make the logo bigger, it's way too small.
Mr. Crecente, you should consider doing something about the author and comment details on the comments pages, right next to this comment for example. It looks kind of like a bugger. Not a good solution. At least keep the nickname on top somewhere of the comment, as a headline alongside the avatar or something. Other than that, it's fine, the new comment separators are decent.
I'm really not digging the new look so far, but maybe it will grow on me.
I do have a bug to report -- using Firefox 2.0.0.4 and going to a comments page for any given user, the first link to "see all comments" is covered by text and broken.
This layout is NOT bringing sexy back, rather, it has lost sexy.
@XsTatiC: We'll still have big pics when they are justified.
Well the smaller pictures are helping the page load faster as I secretly read at work through a remote desktop connection that has a slow upload connection.
The commenter's name being on the right is slightly annoying in my opinion. Was this a Gawker decision?
I dont know why, but it makes me sort of dizzy. it does look clean, but if somethings were more centered it might be easier on the eyes.
There is this big empty space and I don't know what to do with it! I can see the attempt here, but really, all that white space is distracting. Not a very nice lay-out if you ask me. The comments are strange too especially as you can't instantly tell who wrote the comment. In a way, I like how you can see the most recent comment on the front page (gives a small insight to how the article is being received or responded too) but at the same time the downscaled pictures and that complete emptiness will take some time to get used to.
Is this definitely permanent?
This was a good decision. Keep up the good revisions.
I definitely liked where the commenter names used to be. I could quickly identify the author and, in some cases, ignore and skip to the next comment.
Like most of you do when you see my comments. :)
I just want to see my name on the front page. :p
Ack, not Kotaku too! The right side of the screen bothers me so much now. I do like the login strip on top of the page though.
Way too much blank space at the top of the page, but nice otherwise.
Why fix what ain't broke?
Nice! You fixed my number one complaint about the wasted space on the lefthand side. Thank you!
Now any chance you can change the pea green and pink color combo?
*I* don't like it.
It sucks.
Big time.
Much less cleaner.
Harder to read.
Did I mention that it sucks?
That's my opinion of course, *You* are free to disagree.
I think that it's still buggy. Perhaps, I don't think everything is supposed to be to the right.
wish the avatar was a bit bigger....
seems smaller than last version...
What happened to the "reply to this comment" feature? Please say it's just not showing up on my computer and you guys didn't take it away. It facilitated relatively civil discussion in the various threads. Without it, people will be all confused, no one will know who anyone else is responding to and it will be anarchy!
I just feel like my Kotaku got a whole lot smaller...
@anonim1979: Okay, I disagree. :)
