THQ, you so kurazy! The press conference kicked off with a clip of girls wearing too much make-up and too few clothes. Next up, some wrestling divas appear on stage. They don't wrestle, though. They just kinda stand there. And smile. Of course, since I live in Japan, I have no clue who they are. Analyst and soothsayer Michael Pachter, who happens to be sitting next to me, says that Michelle McCool is famous. Believe him. He's Pachter.
They play through a round of Smack Down vs. Raw 2008 on the Wii. The game looks solid, and moving the Wii-controls in a certain way can mimic the wrestler's signature taunts. Nothing like a small children getting more chance to practice HHH's "Suck It!" gesture.
Next up, was Frontlines. The game is set twenty years in the future. Rather, in teh future. The textures were quite as detailed, and the frame rate looked choppy. Probably a little early to show the game.
Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon looks fun. It's set in the 1970's. To keep it from getting repetitve, an improved heat sinking anal probe, new space saucer and "high fidelity destruction" that leave damage on buildings and street.
There were a bunch of race games. Like there are.
The most interesting title? De Blob hands down. The game features a
black and white colorless world and was originally created by students in the Netherlands. Players use their blob to absorb paint and bounce around the town, spashing color. Each different color makes a different noise, and it's possible to mix the colors. The character design and the game design looks very neat! Nice to see this kind of thing from a third party.
Finally, UFC fighter Quentin "Rampage" Jackson, a self proclaimed "video game freak," gets on stage to promote THQ's upcoming UFC title. Rampage is charming, funny and tells us if we're not watching UFC, we're watching ballerinas. See? Kinda nutty.
