You've heard the talk, right? That Mr. Denzel Washington might be portraying enigmatic space motocrosser soldier Master Chief in the movie adaptation of Halo? Well, it seems that that particular casting rumor is going to live about as long as a dozen glazed donuts in Harry Knowles basement apartment.
Turns out that Denzel was down under to visit effects house Weta Workshops for a different film, not the Peter Jackson produced video game flick. Australian contributor Latauro had this (and more) to say about the validity of Washington's turn as the Halo green machine
I should point out that I don't have any definitive proof that Washington won't be in HALO, but I do know the following points: (a) I spoke to someone who saw first-hand Washington hanging out with Richard Taylor at the Park Road post-production facilities; (b) the Weta design team doesn't have much to do on HALO at the moment because Bungie is in control of the design elements; and (c) point b is important because the Master Chief will not be removing his helmet at any point during the film.
And what would be the point of paying Denzel his surely high rate for what would essentially be voice over work? Check out Ain't It Cool News for further details.

So who is our perfect master chief? What do you guys think? I'd be alright with Clooney. He plays a decent no-nonsense bad ass. Think more towards Clooney from Syriana and less so from Batman Craptacular. I'm curious to hear what the rest of you come up with.

I think that they need to get a veteran creature actor to properly move and emote with the suit. David Prowse would've been a good choice if he were younger.

Personaly, I don't mind so much as long as the guy can pull it off... which I suppose was the question ^^; I can't really think of anyone but the original voicing, it just wouldn't be right.

C'mon, did anyone think that Denzel would actually take a role in a Halo flick? A movie based on a video game is almost guaranteed to fail, and is absolutely guaranteed to suck. Denzel wouldn't touch it, nor would any other actor worth his salt. And rightly so. Face it, you already know that The Rock is going to be cast, so just start your crying now.

I think Clooney's voice and tone would probably match the chief's pretty well as the first replier stated. And he has had experience in suits that are very... uncomfortable to say the least, so he could probably do alright in a Master Chief suit. Although, they may want to get a bigger looking guy to do the suit, and just dub Clooney's voice over it.

I have two words for all you "Milla Jovovich" in the Resident Evil movies. Denzel would have been a good choice but he is eating on the four layer cake now. He isn't hungry enough and already did Man on Fire. Any one who is a Halo fan knows MC is a bad a$$, he also has a one liner sense of humor. Hell he is John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone all rolled into one. Does Denzel encapsulate all these Actors? Lets get down to the sauce that makes it all taste delicious. Setting aside Batman and Superman post Bryan Singer era how many comic movies made it? I always wanted to see Robert Deniro play "Wolverine" from the uncanny Xmen. "Are you talking to me?". The Master Chief of Halo wears a damn helmet and visor anyway. What do we have to see? The intelligent guy from Monty Python and the Holy Grail pulling his visor up to get a word in edgewise? Honestly if you gonna pull out the "Big Guns" in my honest, personal opinion. I have two words for you, "Mel Gibson". Bad a$$ mofo, has the notches on his belt and has a notoriety of getting into a rumble now and again. Furthermore, he is still hungry and doesn't give a shitte about his four layer cake.
The best person for the job would be Ron Perlman. He's one of the few actors in Hollywood who doesn't need to be "seen" to give an effective performance. Plus, his voice would be *perfect*.
