In Mexico, nothing says politics more than video games. Former Mexican president Vicente Fox once invited some orphans over to "play Nintendo," and current prez Felipe Calderon is a big time game nerd who even admits publicly he games. During his president campaign, Calderon doted his campaign site with flash games, which unfortunately are now gone. Still! He is one of us. His favorite title? Age of Empires. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though...

hahha I love age of empires :D
AoE? lol alright...
Apparently he's not very good at it...
Isn't this the same guy that hated on GRAW for being set in Mexico?
Well, I'd vote for him...
AWESOME.
Hes Mexican, a President and has a good taste in games.
If only we could kick out John Howard (in AUS) for this guy :P
@Protector one: if I were mexican I get annoyed to. Guess it is easy for you to be all high and chuckle about it, but if they were to make a game were you invade USA you be preaching about millitary and economic sanctions on the Bill Oreily show on fox.
@Protector one: No it wasn't this guy, it was some f$%cker at Juarez.
Calderon actually likes videogames a lot, i read on an past interview that he was really into Halo.
i like the guy, i voted for him :)
@Irenicus: Imagine a game where your country gets invaded by a far more powerufull one for no apparent reason. The enemy then shows crass disrespect for your culture and religion and generally messes things up. Then your friends start disappearing and if they ever come back they tell stories about beeing tortured by the invaders.
You are of course a hero, picked by your god and start fighting against the evil empire. You plant bombs, assault enemy strongholds and intercept enemy comnvoys to kick the invaders out.
Of course, it wouldn't be a proper videogame, if you weren't allowed to follow your enemy into his homeland and start killing people there, resulting in an epic showdown with the enemy leader.
I guess, it's all realy a matter of perspective..
@Protector one: No, it was the Cd. Juarez's mayor. He tried to get the game banned but failed.
Yeah, he plays AoE, but he always just spams war elephants so it's no fun playing with him.
that man is an illegitimate president, just like bush who stole the elections in mexico, and is just another puppy of the US like his predecesor Vicente Fox.
I just hated when this bastards are paraded in the US media like good guys, or in websites like this one, just to gain your sympathy for the son of his mother.
Very interesting. Could this mean the rise of Mexican videogames?
Uprising: The Downhill of Yanks!
@little_dragon: There is one game that didnt get too much publicity, but in the game USA was invaded by the soviet union in a timeline where the comunism spreaded all over europe after the ww2, the game is called FREEDOM FIGHTERS, and was a good game a thind person shooter, and very weird and good game...
@little_dragon: I'd probably play it if it was a fun game. You know, because it's a video game. Entertainment. Fiction. Fun. Make-believe. Not real. Not based on real events. Just for fun. Fun.
... Are Zapatistas a unit in AoE?
I don't like that guy. I voted for the other candidate.
It's cool that he likes video games but hobbies and stuff like that should be left out of politics.
AOE sucks anyway, even my grandma can play that. Get him to play some Starcraft :P
He dicho.
@Recury: ROFL
@TOCATL: i still have that game. indeed, a fun game to play
no, no, he just said that so us gamers vote for him, he's an asshole at age of empires...
@kunawaro: Oh please, such bullshit and you know that. Do not even dare to compare what happened in the USA with what happened here in the elections last year. You well know that all that shitty conspiracy theories by that "yellow party" man were so f'ed up and stupid.
Sorry for the political rant....... anyway, so cool Calderon likes to play videogames, i had no idea, hahaha.
Wait... isn´t that Millhouse´s dad???. ;-)
He may be a gamer, but he is not a good president. As Mexico is now one of the most violent countries in the world. And the flash games on his webpage were taken off because they were extremely politically incorrect... in those games he fought like a people´s champion against Cuba´s and Venezuela "Monster" Presidents and minions.
Ok. Calderon is on Kotaku. What. the. Hell.
Anyways, I voted for him, but I dodn't know up until now he games.
I voted for him because the other ones were utter assholes. A lot of friends of mine lost their jobs for the stupid PejeFest.
@kunawaro: WOW, COMEDY GOLD. Say, whatever happened to ol' Peje? Is he still the 'legitimately elected president of Mexico'? *snorts*
I wish I had been in the country to vote for Calderon. Stupid family vacations got in the way. :p
It's not that I don't expect government workers to have leisure time, but having "disastrous president" on my curriculum vitae would severely cut down on my video game time.
@Dave Silva: 'legit, hahaha, that always was soo funny to me, haha.
@GhaleonQ: "disastrous", what the heck are you on??????? Have you noticed how stable the economy is even though all the drug related violence (which i might add, is only between people who try to control that, not mainstream), i mean, WTF do you want people, do you want a president to all of a sudden appear and magically fix everything.
If anyone is to blame you can blame the nice politicians we have (and i am including all parties here), those who do not have any vision of the future and just want to see what they can gain for the next elections.
One person cannot change a country, it is an effort where everyone needs to get involved. Including us, stopping the bribing, etc. We ALL need to think for the country, not just him.
@valhum:
Well said dude :P
@Evilv6: :OD
@kunawaro
Are you one of those guys who go out to the street and says "voto por voto casilla por casilla" you are pathetic, god know where the peje is now....
I HATE that guy. He ruined Mexico even more than it already was.
His version of age of empires probably made spanish uber powerful or something. DEATH TO FOX!
Hey, I loved Age of Empires!
Does that mean he's a megalomaniac or what?
At least it wasn't GTA.
@kunawaro: The elections were validated by the electoral courts. You can whine all you want but at the end of the day he is the only and legal president of Mexico.
You are free to think otherwise, thought, but that won't change the facts.
is no conspiracy theory, is a conspiracy actuallity my friend, in any case the man does not represent the majority of the mexican people, he is just another puppet of the mexican rich people, but dont worry he will be out in even worst shape than the other puppet fox. count on it.
@izarate: the facts as you say, means the court is as corrupt as the president.
