Evolution Studios' muddy PLAYSTATION 3 racer Motorstorm will be the proud owner of a new patch any day now, as the game's Community Team Coordinator has revealed on the Euro PlayStation forums. While one of my biggest gripes about Motorstorm is addressed in only the loosest definition of the word—the painfully long and unnecessary load times during vehicle selection—some exploits, bugs and annoyances have been magically fixed through the power of computer programmin' wizardry. Details follow.
The 2.0 updates will bring about the following changes.
Vehicle Select enhancement - your last-used vehicle in each class will now be presented as the default choice during vehicle selection.
Assigned player colours are now displayed in the lobby to make keeping track of your friends and rivals easier during online races and Eliminator matches.
Further Player-Stat Improvements.
Purchasers of 'Coyote Revenge' can now race this track in Online and Time Attack.
Purchasers of Eliminator Mode will find results from this mode also contribute to their Fame Ranking.
Track Exploits for Grizzly and Raingod Mesa have been addressed.
Headset support - An occasional firewall conflict with headset communications has been resolved.
Headset support - voice comms output now available exclusively through headset.
In addition to the oozing sex appeal of addressing firewall conflicts and other mysterious "improvements and tweaks throughout the game", details on the "Coyote Revenge" download were also disclosed.
Coyote Revenge - mauled into a completely new experience; more technical, new routes and more skilful rivals to battle against.
New Tickets - to get the most out of Coyote Revenge try to master these Revenge Weekend tickets; they cover all difficulty stages and completion will earn a nice surprise.
2 New Vehicles - a pair of special Revenge Weekend machines, chosen for your delectation.
Eliminator Mode - played online yet? In this brand new online multiplayer mode being last is a REALLY bad idea; if you can't hack the pace, the consequences can be quite explosive...
The new MotorStorm DLC is confirmed for our European brethren for the 6th of September, but we're still unsure when the new colonies can expect to get content updates. We'll keep you posted.

wow thats a big update
excellent update. Keep 'em coming.
So the new track and cars are free? If so, sweet!
still no split-screen multiplayer?
Still no local 2 player? Still not interested then.
@doubtful: that was the dealbreaker for me.still not interested either
@Sunatic: @doubtful:
Second. I rented this game, and bought a second controller. Only to find out it was missing this crucial "feature".
Seriously, what kind of racing game doesn't let you race against your friend on the same couch.
"Sorry dude, you're going to have to leave my house and spend over $500 if you want to play with me."
It's a good way to lose a friend.
i rented this game and LOVED it. this may make me want to buy it when it comes out to America (the DLC)
@SpacePenguinBot: don't forget the extra couch. And the TV.
I hope Gran Turismo doesn't go the same route. Just kidding!
I downloaded the demo and went Ehh its alright but clearly not worth 59.99. Thats why i went on Ebay and got it used for $30. Will this dlc be free or pay content?
@SpacePenguinBot: or like, you know, let them have a go once?
@blacksamurai87: i don't know about you but all my friends have at least a tv and a couch
@SpacePenguinBot: yeah. It's just like this unfair situation.

Im gonna get the J version and I wonder if the patch will apply to it also?
@ Witzbold: Don't see why not. Nice to see the DLC for motorstorm is actually coming. I thought it had quietly slipped into oblivion. That said, I've got to echo other people's sentiments about the 2 player split screen. It could be SO good...
Just worried since stuff from the US everything takes longer.
Anyways Ill find out soon enough when I get a copy in hand.
Hopefully the content is well priced. This stuff has been in the works for so long now, and theres supposed to be even another track to be added to the game that is nowhere to be seen.
Wouldn't V2.0 be a sequel?
Awesome game, best racer around, patch is welcome!
@Witzbold: You got a PS3 yet?
@ChickenOfTheSea: Possibly today. Got a few things work wise to take care of first though, along with today its been pissin down on and off so not too sure if I want to carry a PS3 around in this weather. :/
Until the patch in some split screen I'm not interested.
Pity because this is one of the few racing games I'd snatch up.
Less QQ about the 2 player, christ.
@Collins - No, see psp 2.0 Ps3 Update 2.0.
i'm sure SC and WC3 have gone through a couple iterations of versions as well.
@blacksamurai87: @Kirbytheslayer: @nolifedopestar:
Yes, I was engaging in some hyperbloe, but come on! It's a racing game, not an RPG. Sure my friend and I can take turns racing against the computer, but if I'm playing a racing game, you'd think we could.. you know... race. Against each other.
Is there any other racing game that does this? And by "this" I mean allowing you to race online, but not offline?
@SpacePenguinBot: yea counterstrike sucked back in the day cos there was no split screen
wipeout did the same thing, had to play system link
Also, none of my friend have PS3s or Xbox 360s, so local multiplayer is very important if I want to game with friends. I was pretty annoyed after playing through Gears of War split screen only to find that we couldn't continue playing split screen in online matches, unless we both had XBL accounts. Unlike the Halo 3 beta (and I'm assuming/hoping final version) where we could play online unranked matches split screen.
@nolifedopestar:
Kind of different seeing as everyone has a PC, and nobody I know has a PS3. Actually I had a Mac, not a PC, but luckily my friend in college had 2 PCs, so I could get my counterstrike on there.
Not so concerned about the missing 2P mode, the faster loading sounds great... this game sure could use any help it could get on that front. Of course, custom soundtracks are what this game needs the most, but I suppose we'll have to wait on that one.
@Witzbold: excuses, excuses. :)
c'mon... how is peer pressure supposed to work when you have all these other "commitments" like "work" and "staying dry"?
@dv8godd: Still cant decide on bladestorm or motorstorm to pick up first. And I just realized that both have the word storm in the title. ;D
Warhawk might have to wait a little, since $$$ is going towards stranglehold and MOH: Floating Target on the 360.
Its getting sunny again so looks like today might be the day! XD
Shit I wonder how to tell which system model still has the Emotion Engine chip in it though.
I just started playing this a few weeks ago and am still working my way through, loving every minute of it. I'm just arriving at the "swearing" levels of difficulty, so hopefully when I'm done with those, it'll dovetail nicely into the new content.
hope they fix the glitch in the game that happens sometimes. When loading a online game and you hit R1 and R2 it'll occasionaly exit straight back to XMB
Motorstorm- The game I'm most likely to buy, if I decided to buy a PS3
Not to be nitpicky, but when people talk about the xbox its always about the on-line functions. They dont give a rats ass about anything else as long as it looks good and you can play it on-line.
And now when Sony (who has a pretty decent on-line that continues to evolve) focuses on a games on-line all people can say is "where the hells the split player mode?"
Seems to me that on-line is only necessary when convenient.
@Witzbold: As far as I know, all 60gb models have the EE in them in Japan and the U.S. (NTSC). Only European models (PAL) in 60gb were ever devoid of Emotion Engine.
Though I could be wrong.
@Witzbold: @ChickenOfTheSea: Possibly today. Got a few things work wise to take care of first though, along with today its been pissin down on and off so not too sure if I want to carry a PS3 around in this weather. :/
Witzbold, please post your PSN ID in yesterday's thread when you do. I sent friend requests to a bunch of people last night and have bookmarked the thread for updates.

I absolutely love MotorStorm. It's still one of my favorite PS3 games. I picked it up at launch and only just unlocked the last ticket on the w/e. I do wish they'd add split screen mode, although I'm sure that it's more than just a simple update as most of the additions have been.
But yeah, it seems some people switch what they pick on whenever something is improved or fixed.
@Sparx88: This is actually something I'm worried about across both the Xbox and the PS3. Online is great and all. But the the only people I know who have these systems are friends from high school. It's nice to play with them, but when I have my current friends over, I'd like to be able to play something with them. I can only try to sell them on either system so many times before they tell me their not dropping that kind of cash.
Right now the Wii is the most local multiplayer friendly system, which is OK, but it doesn't have to be that way.
@SpacePenguinBot: You can play Gears of War online splitscreen with guests. I've done so myself. You have to play the unranked "player" matches, and you have to sign in your guest in one of the menu screens before looking up servers. Look around the menus for a bit and you'll find it.
@Toasticus: Huh, I swear I tried that. I'll have to give it another go.
@SpacePenguinBot: Right now the Wii is the most local multiplayer friendly system, which is OK, but it doesn't have to be that way.
Not all the games are that way. There are a bunch of games on either HD system that have co-op and/or competitive split screen multi-player. I think MotorStorm is a stand-out for not supporting it though, since it's such a fun game that would be totally awesome with split screen.
And while the Wii has some great stuff for people on the same machine, its online is pretty much non-existent. I own both the PS2 (with network adapter) and a Wii, and the PS2 online experience (which isn't much) is miles better than the Wiis.
@SpacePenguinBot: Make sure you sign them in as your guest, not as a separate profile on the 360. Dunno if that's what's causing the problem.
@Doshu: Hehe, I'm well aware of the Wii's online suckage. As far as games I own (Dead Rising, Saint's Row, Bioshock, Viva Pinata, and Gears), only Gears supports local multiplayer. However almost every Wii game I have supports it (Metroid and Zelda are the exceptions).
@Toasticus: Probably. I had him create his own profile so he could have his controls stay inverted.
@Doshu: Oh, and Crackdown. That was another one where for some reason I thought I'd be able to play split screen, only to have my friend clutching a useless controller.
@SpacePenguinBot: Getting splitscreen working in Crackdown would have been an astonishing accomplishment. The game uses very efficient algorithms to stream in and out the different parts of the city to allow for a huge draw distance (see everything!), and having to adjust those algorithms to account for two different viewpoints, possibly in opposite ends of the city, would be nightmarish at best and utterly impossible at worst.
I can understand how, from a user standpoint, the game seems like it ought to have splitscreen though. Maybe they'll try for it in the sequel?
@Toasticus: Yeah, I went and read about that after I tried to play it. I suppose they could enabled a bungie cord like system, where if you get too far away it'll *snap* you back together.
Theres 2 elements to this release.
1. Patch 2.0, which is free and available already in PAL territories at least (I downloaded it yesterday).
2. "MotorStorm™ Revenge Weekend PLAYSTATION®Network download pack." This will be on the PSN store from Thursday the 6th, dont know the price but it will chargable
Theres 2 more Lite packs coming later in September that both add vehicles, also chargable.
I believe all the prices will be on the cheap side, but the proof of the pudding etc...
@Kirbytheslayer: Actually, it's not. Not having at least two-player split screen just plain sucks. In fact, four-player split screen should be standard for racing games adn shooters.
