Legend Of Spyro Animated Film In The Works

While the Spyro the Dragon series has been steadily declining in quality since the original was released, one thing the developers have never skimped on is voice talent. Just look at the cast for the upcoming game The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. You've got Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Wayne Brady, Gary Oldman, and Mark Hamil - all amazing voice talents. In other words, you've got the makings of an amazing CGI movie, which according to Variety is in the works.

Velvet Octopus has a five-pic deal with producer Ash Shah, which includes two more 3-D projects, both CGI animated — "Outback," the story of a white koala bear, and "The Legend of Spyro," a spin-off from the best-selling video game.

Of course there are no details whatsoever other than the fact that a deal is in place, but if they can secure even a few of the series' top-notch voice actors I'd be glad to hand over my hard-earned monies for a couple of hours of purple dragon goodness. More »

EA And Starz Team For Dead Space Movie

EA is not screwing around with promotions and marketing for their upcoming space horror game Dead Space. Not only are they in the midst of a comic book limited series, now they've teamed up with Starz Media to create a full-length animated movie prequel for the game. The animated film, which will bridge the gap between the end of the comic series and the beginning of the game, is being produced by Film Roman, the animation company behind The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!

"We are really excited to be working with Film Roman to create an animated feature that will tell the portion of the Dead Space saga between the comic and game," said Glen Schofield, Executive Producer for Dead Space. "With the video game, comic book and now animated movie, Dead Space has become a true multimedia brand.

The animated feature will launch simultaneously with the game, first on TV and then on DVD. Awfully big push for a new and untested IP, isn't it? If Dead Space ends up tanking a lot of people are going to end up looking very, very silly. More »

Willis And Thornton For Kane And Lynch?

Now that Kane & Lynch is finally upon us, we can move our attention towards different things, such as the forthcoming Kane & Lynch movie. The Times Online reports that two stars are already under consideration.

Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton are said to be in the running to play Kane and Lynch, two escapees from death row - one "a flawed mercenary", the other "a medicated psychopath". The game is due for release next Friday.

I'd daresay that this would be the most appropriate video game movie casting since they got Billy Bob's ex-wife to strap on guns for Tomb Raider - another Eidos game incidentally. If the two ended up working together on this film, it could be the first time a video game movie was more enjoyable than the game itself. More »

Tekken Movie Details Emerge

First comes the movie poster, and then come the movie details. Movie news site IESB has gotten their hands on the audition slides from Tekken, and have poured over them distilling pertinent info for our reading enjoyment. Audition slides are key scenes from the movie used to see how role hopefuls react in those situations. We discover that Jin is a smuggler and junkie who is matched against Marshall Law in the tournament. Bryan Fury is being blackmailed by Kazuya, who at some point in the film locks up his dad, forcing Jin to try and save him. At some point the assembled fighters, listed as Marduk, Phoenix, Anna, Nina, Christie, Raven, Gorgo (Eddy!), Fury, Dragunov and Jin, stage an escape from the Mishima complex, which results in the death of a fighter. Who? No clue, and quite honestly this info could all change by the time the actual movie comes out, but an interesting read nonetheless. More »

Resident Evil: Extinction Infects Theaters

The third installment of the continuously worsening Resident Evil movie series is finally here, waiting patiently at a theater near you until something you really want to see ends up sold out. From the 18% Resident Evil: Extinction has gotten so far at Rotten Tomatoes, it definitely sounds like the sort of movie you'd only see if nothing else was available, or perhaps on a dare. I personally am amazed at how they've taken a concept as glorious as Milla Jovovich killing zombies and made it totally abhorrent to me, though honestly Milla herself contributed greatly to that thanks to her vapid commentary on the first movie's DVD, where she was revealed as that girl who is extremely hot until she opens her mouth to talk and half the sounds are giggles. Not so much an announcement now as it is a warning - Resident Evil: Extinction is in theaters today. Makes sure to buy your tickets for better movies in advance. More »
