The9, a Chinese company best known for operating the Mainland license of World of Warcraft, has bought a minority stake in Korean Company G10. G10 developed the popular Audition titles; under the terms of the agreement, The9 will get the stake for a cash investment of $38 million USD. G10 execs seem to be pleased they'll have more formal ties to a big Chinese player (and a nice little cash infusion), and The9 will hopefully get better support for G10 products. iRiver G10 was slated to be released in Korea this past August. It didn't happen. The company has been facing financial troubles, changed management and apparently put their Wi-Bro networked G10 portable on hold. Apparently, this is indefinite as all their Wi-Bro related product development has stopped, and the new management has announced the company will be focusing primarily on mp3 players. iRiver's PSP killer (almost dead, sorry) has been kicking about since last fall. Dubbed the G10, the multimedia device has 3D graphics processing and a purdy 262k color screen. Korean electronics site AVING.net has pics up of a very slick working model. The portable drops in Korea this August. Bring on the Kart Rider! More »

Check out this sweet piece of hotness from iRiver. The iRiver G10 has a 4-inch WVGA screen that displays at 800 by 480 resolution with 260,000 colors and uses 3D chips. The thing runs on a WinCe 5.0 operating system and comes with a 4 to 8 GB internal harddrive. And check out that design: Two D-Pads and a design that looks like it allows the screen to slide over the body of the device when not in use. I think I'm in love. More »
