Dynasty Warriors 6 Hands-on Impressions

As one would guess, any title marked as the sixth in a series probably isn't going to offer a whole new ballgame, despite Dynasty Warriors 6 adding swimming, climbing and destroying walls to the well-worn mix. In the demo level no swimming was to be had, but I did get to break a wall, which was sort of not that thrilling. Killing hundreds of guys with a combo that stretched across most of the stage was fairly engaging, on the other hand—but aside from the endlessness of the combo, that's the series' admittedly formulaic bread and butter in the first place. Graphics-wise, it's definitely easy on the eyes, even if it's not the prettiest game out there (I played the 360 version, for the record). Overall, it's fun—definitely familiar, but definitely fun. Nobody has done more for the beating up hundreds of people at a time genre than Koei, and it's all coming to a head. 48 dynasty warriors meet 28 samurai warriors in Warriors Orochi for the Xbox 360 and PS3, due out this September. It features 3 character tag-team fighting and four original storylines, but I don't care. I just want to beat up a whole hell of a lot of ancient Oriental peoples with a whole hell of a lot of other ancient Oriental peoples. This should do nicely. More »

I swore after the first PS3 Gundam game I would never buy another Gundam video game again as long as I lived. But Dynasty Warriors: Gundam...well that's completely different, now isn't it? Gundam Musou Sets PS3 Sales Record

Take a culture institution like Gundam and sprinkle the hugely popular Dynasty Warriors. What do you get? Over a 100,000 copies of Gundam Musou sold. That makes the game the first PS3 title to sell over 100k on its first day according to the Game Tsutaya Blog. What's more, Japanese blog Shinobi no Enmachou reports that the game sold about 70 percent of its 170,000-180,000 launch day shipments, making it the 3rd ranked PS3 in overall sales — Ridge Racer 7 is number one at 130,000 total sales and Gundam: Target In Sight is close behind at 120,000. For those still with the bad taste of Gundam: Crossfire for the PS3 in their mouths, guess what? There's another PS3 Gundam game on the way. And after that, there will be another and another and another after that! The console's first effort was shoddy— Insert Credit's Ollie calls it one of the worse Gundam games ever made. But! Fret not!
