Ah, Halloween. You Americans really have the right idea. While we Brits are bobbing for apples and being angrily told that there will be neither trick nor treat, thank you very much, you lot are going full on with the mainstream cosplay - pirates, vampires, pop-culture icons - and for the ladies.. the same, but with a Sexy prefix. That said, it might be a bit cold for this particular outfit. While recent weeks have seen Pac-Man iconography take the world of high fashion by storm the lower-rent, novelty end of the rag trade was not to be left out. This tasteful little number from 'lingerie and sexy costumes' outlet 3Wishes.com goes by the lawyer-friendly moniker "Miss Video Game". They do a Chun Li outfit too. Just sayin'. At BlizzCon 2008 there was one booth I managed to avoid for the majority of the show, but towards the end when the crowds were clearing off I couldn't help but notice the amazing masks and accessories the folks at Rubie's Costume Company had brought along with them. Not only did they sell your standard latex elf ears and a full assortment of masks, including the $160+ full Tauren, they were even working on new masks at the booth. I sat and watched a guy working on the Illidan head for awhile, but I was really impressed with the detail on the Draenei being created on the other side of the booth. If not for my abject fear of putting plastic over my head, I might have been tempted to pick one up myself. More »

In April we reported that Dallas-area anime convention A-Kon was planning on taking on the Guinness Book of World Record's Largest Gathering Of Game Characters cosplay record. Now the results are in and 80 Marios just got their asses handed to them. The record-breaking attempt held at the convention over the weekend drew 697 video game character cosplayers, from Links to Zeldas, SNK and Capcom fighters, fervent Final Fantasy fans, and even Kotakuites like Steven here, pictured as Lakitu, with friends Jenni and Spencer filling the roles of Toad and Toadette. The upcoming golf game We Love Golf will be featuring alternate Capcom costumes for each of its ten characters. The European and US versions of the game will be getting two new characters and Capcom is asking for your help in deciding what classic costumes will be available for them. For the male character you can choose between Frank West (Dead Rising), Balrog (Street Fighter), Guy (Final Fight), Ken (Street Fighter), Dhalsim (Street Fighter), and Captain Commando (Bionic Commando). The ladies also have a nice list to choose from including Cammy (Street Fighter), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rouge (Power Stone), Roll Caskett (Mega Man Legends), and Ashley Graham (Resident Evil). The Hypersapiens have posted a massive gallery of some amazing cosplay pictures on their Flickr site. I'm a big fan of cosplay although I don't really participate in it. (That will change however come Comic-Con, so if you're there look for me in my best Dean Venture with my buddy as Hank.) I am very critical when it comes to costuming though, either do it right or don't do it at all is my motto. No half assing. If you're going to pay the money and take the time to make a killer costume, then pay the extra fifty bucks for a damn wig. No one wants to see a Cloud Strife with greasy black hair. But, I digress.. Of all the Xbox 360 games to have their content bolstered by inexpensive downloadable content, it had to be Bullet Witch, the most amazingly average game ever released for the console. Atari has announced the beginnings of a long stream of DLC coming out over the course of the coming weeks, starting with a free White Witch costume, a theme pack, and the new "Dynamite Beauty" mission, which only costs 20 points.
