I went through this at an extremely early age, and my parents gave me the same advice. I must have gone a good week or so without getting a good night's sleep because of thinking about it. I'm fine now, but man... it's some heavy stuff for a kid of six to come to terms with.

Seemingly unrelated, the other day my girlfriend was telling me that one of the things she admires most about me is my ability to deal with highly stressful situations as if they were nothing. I told her that it may sound dorky, but the hobby that we're all here to discuss has helped me immensely.

I have died a thousand horrible deaths. I've taken a shotgun to the face, caught a grenade the split second before it blew up, fallen off of cliffs, had the car I was driving go up in flames, been dismantled by a chainsaw, and on and on and on. I think it's something unique to those of us who play games... we face unusual and personal deaths over and over again. I know it's taken the edge off of death for me. And not in the "violent games desensitize us" sense. More like, I accept that I will end. I can only hope that my final death is more peaceful than the many that came before it.

@Adam: Pfffttt... this list SUCKS. Where are all the obscure songs that I like. Putting in a lot of songs that have sold tons of albums is a total sell out! They need to cadre to the extreme niche market that consists of me and my 3 best friends! You should see the song list we came up with last night in Jimmy's basement. His mom said it was rad.

Thank you. I just had to quote all of that for truth. I just had to leave out the bit about ska because there's no WAY that ska would be on MY SPECIAL AWESOME version of Rock Band.

And scumm_boy, I LOVE shoegazer as much as anyone, but I just don't see it for this kind of game. Unless you get a little stomp box with three or four buttons on it so you can turn your various reverbs, flanges, phazers, and choruses on and off.

For all of you going OMGJapan, vacuum beds have existed for years. I believe I first saw one in an English magazine. Now, that first-person spunker/fetch me my bat game, you go right ahead. But the whole "Oh it's messed up it must be from Japan" thing is a little broad.

@sc00t420: Maybe not "metal", per se. Just... I don't know. Lots of stuff that I just don't care to hear on occasion, much less the several times I'd have to hear it playing the game. I don't care for Helmet or Sum 41 or Metallica or Megadeth or Audioslave or most of what I casually heard was featured in those games. I didn't follow them religiously, nor am I following Rock Band all that much. I just know that once a week or so I'll hear about a song or two being in RB and by and large those songs are closer to my taste in music.
