A note about the child killing:

The first two Fallout games got away with it (they had M ratings) because of the relatively low exposure they and most games received from the general public. Either fortunately or not, gaming has grown exponentially since those days (late 90s), and the exposure to the public is much greater. Therefore, no company will now get away with putting *that* much player freedom into the game.

It's just not going to happen without all hell breaking loose.

JRPGs. If I want to have absolutely no choice in my character's actions and no influence whatsoever on the story, I'll read a friggin' book. The vast majority of JRPGs are nothing more than moving your character along until something happens, and then pushing some buttons so the story can go on.

On top of all that, they're all the same god damned story: androgynous protagonist is called upon to reluctantly save the world, but watch out! Somewhere near the end, there's a twist!

It's like watching M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Village' over and over again.

I'm a seasonal employee at EBGameStop, and I like it well enough. Try not to complain so much about the trade-in issue. I'm not a fan of it either, but instead of complaining, I simply make sure to buy my games new.
