Trackpads, touchscreens, and other forms of cursor input exist in situations where having a mouse is simply not practical, but it is the best way to control GUI's as they are designed today.

We're starting to see the consequences of that now with increasing prices, global climate change(?), pollution, starvation, etc. The way that being green forces us to live, I think, is more akin to how we should all have been living all along. And that sucks, sometimes.

For instance, when you're scrolling through the menus, you can see what's to come, but you can't see what you've already scrolled past. It might have been better to have something that was more like Apple's coverflow (where maybe the menus to the left and right of the focus were visible, but not as big?), as that's obviously a partial influence here. Also, while it's clearly a choice of style-over-function, there's a LOT of wasted space.

I love my Xbox (or "loved" i should say; it just red-ringed after a year and 3 months), but I'll be using the quick or mini GUI they showed off along side this announcement.
