I thought the benefit of consoles in the first place was that they were propriotory. That way game companies can just make it work on that one machine. This seems to make no sense. Above that though, to me this is just like a PC. What is the point of even making a game platform if you are just going to let everyone make the hardware. They might was well be competing with their own product Windows at that point. I doubt this would happen.

I'm really dissapointed with all of the comments on here on this article. First of all Hollick seemed very reasonable about his situation, at least from the things he said that were quoted. He's not stating that he was somehow mistreated.

Second, by arguing that he was somehow negligent in signing up to do the job without negotiating a better deal is missing the point entirely. The whole idea behind the Times' piece was to indicate a growing trend towards real actors involved in games like this. His case is a particularly appropriate example of how these actors are going to be getting payed more and more as games move closer to reality.

Lastly I have to say I'm really losing respect for the commenters on Kotaku. It's not like people here were always the deepest thinkers but it definitely used to be better. I guess I should just stop caring. To go as far as calling him things like an idiot or dickhead is so ignorant it's not even funny.

The first MGS came out when I was 10 so I practically grew up with the series. I've loved every one of them, 3 was my favorite, and I can't wait to be able to play 4. I hope that he makes more of them, and that he makes them forever. Maybe he's getting sick of it but I'm not. The style he's created with these games is the coolest thing in videogames to me. Maybe I'm being greedy but that's how I feel.

I never knew Shenmue cost so much. That really surprised me. That said, it's definitely a thinking person's game so it stands to reason that Grand Theft Auto sold and will sell more. The gameplay is totally different in my opinion as well though.

I liked Slaughterhouse 5 too but I had to read it for class so I don't think I enjoyed it as much. I also didn't really get impacted as much by the idea of being able to see your life like those alien dudes do. In my case I've never had to deal with death yet so I don't ever think about it.

Multiplatform will help but the majority of the American casual audience, or most consumers, just hate RPGs. Most Americans see them as tedious and constrained in terms of game play. I think the real question here is whether squeenix can make an American style game that utilizes their already existent IP. That would require hiring American programmers IMO as no Japanese publishers are making those sorts of games right now. I just don't see them doing something that adventurous.

I don't know why people are considering that Rockstar would give up on releasing the game. This isn't a joke, there are millions of dollars at stake here and they aren't just going to throw that away. The game will probably come out in a month or two is my guess.
