If they plan on playing the same game as me. But yeah, not to much avail.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on What Are You Playing This Holiday Weekend?]]> @Jacktherip: I'm also trying to get through P3 FES, but I keep getting distracted by Age of Conan and the Witcher.

Which aren't too shabby as far as distractions go.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @Demonbird: I'll agree to agree with you on that.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @kingmanic: Same thing in IE, the text is running outside the comment box.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @CorrinZGW: Dude, how many comments have you made on this post? You probably had 3 or 4 before I told you to calm the fuck down.

@Troubadour: And yet you do too? I don't get it. Shit, fine, I loooooove Tim Buckley! I want to marry him! Oh, he's just the dreamiest! I can't believe all you bad men called him a pedophile! Wah wah wah. My original post was to tell a kid to stop calling people fags and provide proof when calling someone a pedophile. It would apply to anyone else.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @Thorax: Maybe I would defend White Ninja to the death. To the death!

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @Troubadour: Don't get ahead of yourself, I'm not a huge fan of CAD. I was as put off by the miscarriage thing as anyone. I don't give enough of a shit about any webcomic to get into a serious arguement about it, I was disagreeing with the tone..... of the ZP video, and Corrin's words.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @Demonbird: But, if it were true, how is CAD still online? How come I never heard this from anywhere else? I don't read every forum post on every site there is, so there definitely could be something I've missed.

My main disagreement with Corrin was saying "no talent fags," but calling someone a pedophile is a pretty hefty label. Like, as bad as it gets.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @CorrinZGW: Or if I was so inclined, I guess I could just photoshop that. Which is my point. Some picture on the internet doesn't prove much.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @CorrinZGW: Ahhhhh the facts. So, you do have proof of some sort of conviction then, right? Calling someone a pedophile is a pretty big deal if you can't back it up. Blindly agreeing with Tim Buckley is just as bad as believing everything you hear on Something Awful.

And I love how you moved from "no talent fags" to "utter waste." Oh, belch forth the utter waste! Looky here, Ma, this kid is trying to sound like Shakespeare!

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @Demonbird: Is it? Or is it some internet rumour? Was he convicted of a crime (I'm seriously asking this, I have no idea where this comes from)?

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @CorrinZGW: "No talent fags"? "Pedophile"?

Just because you are anonymous behind the avatar, doesn't mean you get to be a dick. Calm the fuck down.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Zero Punctuation Takes On Ctrl+Alt+Del]]> @kingmanic: I couldn't agree more. Why would Yahtzee do this? It makes no sense.

It's just uncomfortable, and I don't know if I can fully articulate it. I guess it's kinda like when you are on a double date with a married couple, and they just start fighting, out of the blue. There you were, having a good time in a nice restaurant, and out of left field they start yelling at each other. It just makes me want to aim my eyes downward and slink out of there.

I enjoy CAD, Penny Arcade, VG catz, and plenty more... I've been a "netizen" since '95 or '96, and I've seen all these comics grow up to where they are. Yeah, it might not be as good as the old days or whatever, but I guess it's a small sense of loyalty. I enjoy ZP also, I think he's hilarious, but he's drawing a line in the sand where there never needed to be one. It just feels too personal, like Tim Buckley was a dick to him or something, and this is the vengeance.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Activision Takes A Crack At Gearbox's Hell's Highway, A "Crappy War Game" [Update]]]> @balls187 upside yo head: @RageKage: There are 2 theories as to why they are not being allowed to call this game "Call of Duty 5."

1. Infinity Ward no longer wants another developer messing with their franchise, so they are cool with Treyarch making spin-offs, but not "true" COD games.

2. Activision doesn't want World at War cannibalizing sales of COD4, which could potentially happen if they call this COD5. Your average Joe Blow gamer tends to think that the higher the number, the better the game. This easily could have happened when COD3 was released, and Activision could have had their "reputation" tarnished because of staggering disappoinment.

Theory 1 says the real developer of COD cannot trust Treyarch to make a good game. Theory 2 says the publisher of COD cannot trust Treyarch to make a good game.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Blizzard: Microsoft Could Do More To Support PC Gaming]]> @PATSCRU: I agree. I'm pretty much at the point where I don't even care what MS does with gaming as long as Steam can pick up the slack. Which they are doing very well.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Ever Re-Name A Video Game?]]> Well, my wife and I rename just about every game I buy, without fail. For example, here is a reverse timeline of one of my recent purchases. See if you can guess the actual name of the game before the end!

Agent Boners
Aged Boners
Age of Boners
Age of Bone-an
Age of Conan

Also, Chromehounds = Danger Dogs

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Proof That 1990s Game Innovations Were Often Lame]]> @fenderfuel08: "People growing up on the Xbox 360 generation really have it bad in comparison to the SNES/N64 era...buggy, expensive games, mandatory installs, tons of bland games with pretty graphics, tons of FPS's, friend codes, sports game monopolies, $400 consoles, multiple skus, defective hardware..."

"$400 consoles" - What? The SNES and NES were 200 bucks when released, the Wii is only 250. If you wanted to splurge and get a 3DO? 700 bucks. And that is not inflation corrected. Correcting for inflation, they were closer to 350 or so. I remember plenty of games selling new for 50 bucks, once again, adjusted for inflation, it's not too far off from what we pay now.

"multiple skus" - NES was released in 2 different SKUs. the one with ROB, and the one without.

"tons of bland games with pretty graphics" - Better than tons of bland games without pretty graphics, no? I remember renting a game revolving around the Spot from 7up cans. And McDonalds games. And a Noid game. A majority of the games released back then also sucked.

"tons of FPS's" - or tons of side scrollers?

"friend codes" - better than no online at all

"defective hardware" - I had to start blowing my NES so much I started charging it 10 bucks.

I think your glasses are a bit rosy. Don't get me wrong, I often pine for the old days myself, but videogames have been pretty iterative, in a positive way. It's only getting better!

I heard somewhere that everyone who owns the original will get the extra content free. Except the physical stuff, I guess.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Court Confirms Ziff Davis' Bankruptcy Plan]]> @tavora: Everything that anyone could ever consider wrong with the game enthusiast crowd is summed up in your statement.

You are a living representation of all the immaturity, overreactionary, fanboy bullshit that sometimes make me want to abandon gaming forever, just so I'm never confused for somebody like that.

"They can die a horrible death"

Are you kidding me?

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Court Confirms Ziff Davis' Bankruptcy Plan]]> well, it looks like I got cut off. Had written plenty, too. Here I go again:

I really find the notion of "print game journalism will die!" hilarious. Have any of you been to a large bookstore? Looked at the magazine section? These are mags made for single PC applications. You can subscribe to a magazine that is all about Dreamweaver, an app that helps you make web pages. That reader base just may also be online. There are mags for people who love cats, or dogs, or I even saw a mag for people who like old gangsters. 20 or so different mags about lowriders, sometimes segmented into specific styles of lowriders.

People LOVE magazines, and a percentage of those people also game. I do believe some magazines will fail, but at least a couple will survive, and they will probably win the talent and reader base. Personally, I can't stand reading anything on a computer screen for more than a couple pages, but I'll sit down with a mag and read a 6 page preview no problem. And, I don't think I'm the only one.

Ever noticed how online games journalism looks? A couple paragraphs, and a handful of screenshots. Yes, there are some exceptions blah blah blah, but for the most part, I'll continue to read extended coverage on good ol' dead trees, and grab my gaming tidbits from sites such as this one.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Sony Announces In-Game XMB, Trophies Coming To PS3 Via 2.40 Firmware]]> @Netnavi: Why aren't you using the warranty? Just curious.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Sony Announces In-Game XMB, Trophies Coming To PS3 Via 2.40 Firmware]]> So, have they said if this in game XMB will allow you to private chat with someone while playing different games? Allow you to send invites to friends? I don't really think I'd want it without those things.

@people who just own a PS3: the online interface for the 360 is fucking amazing, and I'm sorry you are missing it. Turning on my PS3 to play online games is quite often an exercise in frustration after I got used to all the little things XBL got right.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on New Operation Darkness Screens, Now With More WWII Zombies And Werewolves]]> Yikes, I was ready to buy this game sight unseen, but I guess I'll grab the demo just to see how bad the camera is. There are a few reviews out already, apparently EGM gave it two D's and a C, and OXM gave it a 2/10. Some site called hardcore gamer gave it a 3/5, but admitted that they wrote the official strategy guide.

From what they say, the camera is supposed to be like that?

Maybe I'll switch that preorder over to Civ Rev, and hope Spectral Force 3 is playable. I don't care about reviews, but if the camera thing makes it unplayable, then I'll have to pass.

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on New Operation Darkness Screens, Now With More WWII Zombies And Werewolves]]> Preordered this months ago. It's Atlus, it's turn based, you have werewolves in your party.

Hell, I'm probably getting Spectral Force 3 also, and as far as I know, there are no werewolves.

It's strange being a fan of a publisher, but hot damn do I love Atlus.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Gears of War, Mass Effect On The Cheap]]> @Hugoku: I'm married, and approaching early thirties, and work a full time job. I managed to finish Mass Effect, and I felt like I conquered the world (finally! finished a game).... I think my playtime was around 30 hours, over a few weeks, squeezing in some play here and there.

So, I know what you mean, it's pretty tough to do.

BUT, 30 hours is much less brutal than your typical 70-80 hour JRPGs, so it is doable. If you really get into the story (like I did) you won't mind taking a month to finish it.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Trion Also At Work On First-Party Van Caneghem MMO, PS3 Titles]]> It's like I've been hearing about Sci-fi all day today, I just found out they hired Tom Chick (!!!) to write a game blog for them, called Fidgit. And it is typical Tom Chick awesomeness, and makes me think that Sci-fi may just do this whole game thing right.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Microsoft To Start Pulling Underperforming Titles From Live Arcade]]> @RonCey: Safe bet, yes, but I'd really like a definitive answer. Been searching high and low, commenters on joystiq asked the same thing, people are also asking this question on the evil avatar forums, the comments section of the source article, and the guy who posted it on destructoid asked the same thing.

<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Microsoft To Start Pulling Underperforming Titles From Live Arcade]]> @RonCey: Where in the linked article does it say that?

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Microsoft To Start Pulling Underperforming Titles From Live Arcade]]> @NitrousO: It does sound like only the crappiest of the crappy will be delisted, I just hope they don't apply the same thinking to the video marketplace. I'm sure upright citizens brigade isn't the most popular thing around, and I'd hate to keep 15 episodes or whatever on my hard drive for fear that I can't redownload them later.

"what is goin to happen if its a very slow year in new game sales??"

Not much I'd guess, since they would make it up in used game sales. And couldn't you apply that logic to any store that sells one kind of product? What's going to happen to starbucks when there is a slow year in coffee?

"all i really know is that i will see gamestop go down.."

Do you take all commerce this seriously? Or did gamestop kill your partner when he was only 2 days away from retirement?

]]>
<![CDATA[baxterpunch commented on Microsoft To Start Pulling Underperforming Titles From Live Arcade]]> @DarkTravesty: Thanks for the link, but that was the first place I checked after I read the kotaku article.
