Project Thanatos commented on Miyamoto Caught on Film Checking Out Killzone 2 Is no one allowed to try out new games for the sake of trying out a new game?

Hell I'm an avid "THERE ARE SO MANY DAMN SHOOTERS" kind of gamer and am INCREDIBLY harsh on my judgment of shooters.... that won't stop me from trying one out and weighing it out.

Hence how I came to love COD4 despite its "I hate snipers" position. Bastards.

Project Thanatos commented on What Happens When Otaku Grow Up? @wassermelone: @Ubik2501:

Yes I agree. However Manga is a relatively new medium to the States. While the percentage of American comic IS crap and the same regurgitated material with a twist, the remaining percentage of quality is MUCH larger than the percentage of quality Manga. That larger percentage allows for the quality works to have an enhanced survivability through exposure and eventually longevity.

Project Thanatos commented on Square Enix's E3 Line Up - Where Is Final Fantasy XIII? I'm actually quite glad Squenix is venturing into new IPs rather than racing to the next FF installment.

I also think the remakes are a great way to expose the newer generation of gamers to the classics MY generation grew up with and loved.

I just hope the FFVI remake comes to us soon.

Project Thanatos commented on What Happens When Otaku Grow Up? I was a huge manga/anime otaku when I was younger. I'm reaching the 27 year old marker and I VERY rarely BUY manga/anime.

The reason for it is simple. A lot of the same themes, character designs, and storylines are rehashed over and over again. Very rarely does a true gem combine all those three elements in a fresh and attractive fashion. ( Check out Souleater if you're looking for a good anime. One of the newer anime I have enjoyed. )

I think the subject matter also has to be scaled for an older audience. By this I don't mean cut the cute crap and add in gallons of blood and action. Keep the storylines rich in drama, intrigue, and conflict. Realism helps as well. Yes I know realism and manga/anime don't really go hand in hand especially considering the saturation of fantasy/scifi elements. Still, realism helps enrich certain themes and characters. Giving characters realistic vulnerabilities humanizes them, making them easier to relate to.

It's a medium that really needs a fresh outlook.

(I still purchase a read comics. Just Manga is so repetitively predictable and diluted in the same subject matter.)

Project Thanatos commented on New Dissidia Final Fantasy Trailer Squall vs Sephiroth? Really? That seems a bit one sided figuring Sephiroth is vastly more powerful than Squall.

Project Thanatos commented on Variety Troubled By Sid Meier's Next Game Civilization AND Colonization are mere reflections of the way our human race behaves. This is by far my favorite aspect of the series. Yes there is racism, nationalism, etc, etc. In the end my soldiers trample your dead.. raze your cities... breed your people out... bankrupt your economy... force others to view you negatively... force my god(s) or lack thereof on your masses... poison your water supplies.. sabotage your hard work... destroy your land through what can only be called terrorism in the modern world... incite revolts.. burn everything you are to the ground.

Notice the trend here?

It's NOT just a game. It's a reflection of the human machination. Turn-based but accurate as proven by history.

Project Thanatos commented on Why Did We Never See Neal Stephenson's Future-Batman Movie? I think what made Beyond so great was Terry McGinnis. He was the complete opposite of Bruce Wayne personality and training wise. He was charismatic where Bruce was intimidating. He adapted quickly to the suit because of his age and persona where Bruce had to train rigorously for it. Best of all though.. is that Terry grew up and was far more exposed to the state of Gotham as it is in the future. Where as Bruce still wandered in a state of old.

Project Thanatos commented on Let's Pay a Visit to the Zerg Homeworld SPOILER:

Brood War ended with the revelation that Zerg-protoss hybrids were in incubation. This might have been the plan all along as her willing cooperation with the Protoss to eliminate the rogue hive minds might have served as an excellent diversion from the production of these units.

Project Thanatos commented on A CGI Gojira Worthy of His Name One of my biggest issues as a HUGE G fan is the portrayal of Gojira itself.

I am a huge fan of the Heisei era Godzilla. That being the Goji incarnation from Godzilla 1995 through Godzilla vs Destroyah.

This era portrayed Godzill as a behemoth compared to other eras. Much more sluggish in nature (respectively due to his huge size) but all the more physically powerful. Ibelieve this portrayal was the best interpretation of Godzilla as a rampant force of nature gone wrong.

After Godzilla 2000, the kaiju king takes a much slimmer and athletic approach. Even in Final Wars you see this figure at play. Jumping, running, flipping. All things a ninja or power ranger could do... but not a behemoth creature of destruction.

This Godzilla seemed slimmer but at the same time much slower. His animalistic qualities (such as the head shake no doubt due to the high amounts of dust and debris he was wading through) add a realism that I quite enjoy in a Godzilla film. Yes I know Godzilla and realism cant really go hand in hand without a few chuckles but it does make the illusion much more enjoyable.
