While I will always have a soft spot in my heart for old school Metallica, my f'n LORD the models look AWFUL. I mean Lars looks sorta okay, and Kirk... meh... but James? WTF???

Eh, I stopped caring about them after the Black album, so at this point... I'll rent it from Gamefly or something for shits n giggles.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Age of Conan Tanked. Here's Why]]> Okay I played AoC till level... I think it was like 15.

I have never played such an awful attempt at an 'adult' MMO in my life.

You know what? Voice acting in SINGLE PLAYER games is a good idea. IT IS NOT NEARLY AS GOOD IN AN MMO.

Seriously, Yahtzee's review hits SO many nails on the head.

It had some interesting ideas, but even the starter city was full of epic fail (collision issues, bugged guards, bugged npcs, bugged quest chains) Every time I hear someone laud how 'amazing' their experience was, I have to assume it's either a) they are extremely easy to please, or b) they are so bitter and jaded that they were willing to suck the wang of ANY MMO out there that wasn't WoW.

Let me put it this way: The person whose account I was using was a *GM FOR AoC*. What game did he actually ENJOY playing? You guessed it: WoW.

Heck even PLANETSIDE was more fun to play than AoC :P

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on MUD Designer Unhappy About WoW Torture Quest]]> Wait wait wait... this whole argument is BULLSHIT.

HOW many quests are there in the game that have you beat up someone until they talk? Off the top of my head I remember at LEAST 4 before you even hit outland, and then a few more there.

And that's just for starters. The whole point of the quest is to force you to confront the levels to which one might have to stoop to get a particular job done. Essentially you are MEANT to feel unclean by doing this, it's all done to show you how close to becoming Arthas you get by fighting him.

There is a CONSTANT presence in the WotLK expansion that is stripping away all the veils of morality in what many of you/us have spent the last 4 years doing. Killing metric TONS of animals and humanoids (and undead) to accomplish quests prior to this and people still cling to this insane notion that they are 'righteous'. Now, when they are confronted with quests designed to actually force you to SEE what you're doing for what it really is, people get all squeamish.

Kudos to Blizz for giving people some perspective... even if they are too prideful to acknowledge it for what it is...

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Warhammer Online Doubles Open-World RVR XP]]> I have to say I totally agree there. WAR has some nice concepts hidden in a game that seems severely underwhelming to me as a long-time WoW player.

I will be canceling my subscription to WAR so as to focus more on WotLK.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on At Last, We Get Justice For The Star Wars Prequels]]> Simply put: The prequels make for AWFUL storytelling. Not that it would EVER have been easy, being that telling a story you already know the ending to is already an arduous task in and of itself. During the drive to DragonCon, my mom and I basically took what was already in the prequels, reorganized them and cleaned up huge gaping loopholes in the plot, and actually gave Anakin a GOOD reason to go over to the dark side (none of this angsty 'Obi-wan never lets me do anything!' emo bullshit).

Haydn has been quoted several times as being TOLD to play Anakin as a whiny emo-tard, so yes, I feel that all this nerd-rage should be pointed at the past-his-prime director/writer of the crap we got handed as Episodes 1-3: Lucas.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on New Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Cinematic Trailer]]> I freely admit that I love WoW, always have, probably always will.

Every time I watch the WotLK trailer I like it more, tho I do feel it doesn't have as much 'game meat' as their previous cinematics do. Then again Blizzard doesn't have to rely on flash and bombast to make their point now... they can go for *subtle*, which of course will alienate half the new wave of B-Net kiddies (one can only hope, right?)

I also am interested in WO:AoR, but I gotta say the cinematic was WAY too long, and frankly didn't inspire me as much as the Blizzard ones have. Yes, lots of pretty, action aplenty, but nothing in that cinematic made me any MORE interested in playing the game than I already had been.

Simply put: the Blizzard Cinematics (WotLK included) come off as more effective to me. Then again I'm not a ritalin popping twitch-monger looking for the next Pew Pew moment in my gaming (or my cinematics...) must be my advancing age (you know 36 is near-death in gaming years apparently)

I also don't see PvP as a primary motivator for me playing an MMO (even though I have ALWAYS played on PvP servers in WoW), so I don't know if WO:AoR will hold my interest much... Still plan on playing it tho, anything to get out that awful taste from the Conan MMO... >_<

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Wrath Of The Lich King Opening Cinematic]]> @Channing:
As compared to who? Illidan? Emo-demon hunter extraordinaire???

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Wrath Of The Lich King Opening Cinematic]]> ...

The first time I watched it I was a little nonplussed as well, but then I sat down and really WATCHED it and it sent a shiver down my spine.

Arthas is NOT Illidan, emo-demonhunter banished from his home... he's the motherfucking LICH KING...

I have a sneaking suspicion he RESURRECTED Deathwing, or one of the Black Dragonflight in the cinematic...

If that's true... O M F G... that's all I can say...

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on The Trouble with Entertainment Weekly's List of "Best SF Since 1983"]]> The list was absolute crap

No Babylon 5
No Farscape

V? *V*?!?! OMG WTF are they smoking?

Lost?!? When the hell did that become Sci Fi?

Starship Troopers?!?!? Heinlein must be spinning in his grave... Watching 8 minutes of the second one nearly made my ears bleed from the AWFUL dialogue btw.

X-Files? Higher than Doctor Who???

Now I DID like "The Matrix"... and I still do, because it was possibly the most cyberpunk movie we'd had since, say, Blade Runner (which I do agree where it ultimately wound up), with possibly the most hilariously 'anti-love story' I have seen on film, which is pretty much as emotionless and sterile as a cyberpunk love story WOULD be. This does not mean I think it should be ANYWHERE in the top 10 (It'd be in my top 25 tho).

They also left out Akira, which should be punishable by death.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on You Seem To Have Got Tyranids In My Dawn Of War II]]> @Devilturnip: Please bear in mind that the whole REASON Blizzard ripped of Warhammer "wholesale" was that they LOVED Warhammer, and REALLY wanted to make a PC game of the franchise, but were bluntly told that as a bunch of nobodies they would never be able to make a successful Warhammer game.

Had Games Workshop not been the snobs they were at the time (and some might argue to this day, still), things might have gone a LOT differently.

Sometimes living well IS the best revenge. (and the day I pay $40+ for ONE rule book for a tabletop game, with several dozen more waiting to gank my wallet behind it... will be a cold day in the Abyss)

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Tomb Raider Underworld Trailer]]> I KNEW that in the other teaser with the mansion being blown to smithereens it was someone ELSE and not Croft walking away from the explody mansion.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on 5 Manga Movies We Want to See After Akira Blows Everyone's Mind]]> Oh please God NOT Cuaron for Nausicaa, PLEASE...

People may fawn all over his butchery of Prisoner of Azkhaban but he is not good at telling a COMPLETE story (c'mon people, LOOK AT HOW PoA ENDED >_<;)

Perhaps you should consider a certain peer of his, who has already done some FANTASTIC work with the fantasy medium: Guillermo Del Toro? The guy's a master at telling emotional stories without any of the usual Hollywood whitewash.

He's the ONLY person (short of the late Jim Henson) who I'd trust with Miyazaki's work... (tho Gilliam might be able to handle it too, all things considered)

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Blizzard Tell "Fans" To Sit Down, Shut Up]]> This SO makes me LOL...

I'd like to point out something I've noted since, oh, Blizard announced Burning Crusade:

Almost everyone one of their promo vids for ANYTHING they do (the only semi-notable exception being SC2 for some reason) has the gamma turned up higher to show background details. I remember all the gameplay videos of Netherstorm and when I finally got there the colors were MUCH darker - more saturated than they were on the videos I had seen.

Also worth noting: All too often I see people's gamma is set ALL WRONG on their monitors (usually too high) so everything's washed out to begin with.

I have no doubts that with a minor gamma tweak or two it'll look dark enough to suit the drooling emo-tards that have their panties in a twist over this.

(and for all people piss and moan about 'cartoony'-this and 'cartoony'-that, why do all the games that tout their 'uber realistic' models/colors do so poorly when they finally get released? I mean wasn't Age of Conan supposed to KILL WOW with it's almighty graphics engine?)

Heh.

<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Gatchaman Movie Will Look More Anime, Less Photorealistic]]> Something's not right here... I have this funny feeling inside...

Could it be...?

OMG... HOPE?!?!?!

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on One WoW Expansion Per Year? Not Necessarily]]> Throwing more people at a problem does NOT make the problem go away.

Here's a lovely example: Microsoft keeps launching teams and teams and TEAMS of people at Windows and look what we got... Vista... :P

Blizzard seems very much like Pixar, a *relatively* small group of people putting out daunting amounts of actual QUALITY product. They may not get it done when WE (or their overseers) want, but when it does come out it's to universal acclaim and appreciation.

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Which Summer Movie Franchise Has Earned A Nice Rest?]]> I skipped to the results because honestly, either these series are still running pretty strong or they need to be put DOWN, not on hiatus.

For example:

X-Files: SO past its prime it's not funny. This show hasn't been relevant in a DECADE, who's gonna care now?

Indy Jones: Definitely we have "nuked the fridge" on this franchise; it needs to be shelved indefinitely. I love Ford, and I loved Indy, but this movie just showed how OLD everyone had gotten.

Star Wars doesn't necessarily need to be shelved... LUCAS needs to be put in a nice padded room where he can do as little harm to his franchise(s) as possible; and I'm starting to think we might want to reserve a room next door to him for Spielberg, the way things have been going.

And how come the list doesn't mention M. Night Shaymalan? We could use a hiatus from his movies for a few years, let him work on his craft a bit before shoveling out another snooze-fest movie.

Personally I don't see Wanted as even ABLE to have a sequel, even though I personally enjoyed the ridiculously silly film. (hey, you get to hear Morgan Freeman say 'motherfucker', that's worth the cost of a ticket alone)

And we missed The Hulk unfortunately, and I DID want to see it, and Iron Man was the best Marvel movie EVER (even including Spiderman :P) and Dark Knight was bloody AMAZING (tho Nolan NEEDS to work on a better "Batman voice") so I hope they take their time with GOOD sequels to those films.

(and I don't see why they made a FIRST "Get Smart" movie... why are we even considering a SECOND???)

]]>
<![CDATA[Furiursa commented on Shane Kim On MMOs: "We Haven't Been Able To Crack The Code"]]> oh and before I forget, also WoW doesn't take itself QUITE so seriously as other MMOs, (between the pop culture references in-game, and fun stuff like L70ETC). Couple that with the art direction (which some argue is 'too cartoony' but at least the characters move in a somewhat more realistic fashion, as opposed to many other MMOs herky-jerky "I don't know how to motion capture" animations), and the often amusingly over-the-top voice acting and you have yourself a winnar :D
