<![CDATA[Comments from Dioxen]]> <![CDATA[Comments from Dioxen]]> <![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Everything You Wanted To Know About GTA IV (So Stop Asking!)]]> Question: How much does the phone tie into gameplay? In Saints Row there was a bunch of numbers you could call. Some were useless (pre-recorded messages) but some had useful functions like calling the emergency services for free healing or calling a taxi to drive you to a waypoint. Is there anything like this in GTA?

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Which Version Of GTA IV Should You Buy? We Compare The PS3 and 360 Versions]]> @leimeisei: Reading comprehension is not your strong point. From the IGN review: "Sure, there are framerate hitches here and there and (particularly on 360) there is some texture pop-in, but it actually runs better than I expected."

Meaning, both have framerate issues, and both have pop-in but it's particularly more noticable on the 360 version (which is also what this comparison says!)

Even a 6 year old could spot that.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Which Version Of GTA IV Should You Buy? We Compare The PS3 and 360 Versions]]> Does your 360 have a hard drive as a lot of games have improved performance with one as it allocates some of it for caching which can improve certain aspects of gameplay.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Justify Your Mario Kart Wii]]> @Mr.SithNinja: God forbid being fun being a major point of accomplishment for a game.

A game can be fun, have major appeal and a huge lifespan but it's a complete failure if it doesn't take the much beloved characters and franchises that have made Nintendo famous, completely scrap them, then come up with something in a space of 2 seconds.

GOD DAMN YOU DONKEY KONG, WHY DO YOU EXIST AND WHY DO YOU KEEP TORMENTING ME WITH BANANAS!!! The game would be much better if it was Horse Dong who threw horseshoes at me instead.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on The Darkness Getting A Sequel It Shouldn't Have]]> @Rabidsquirrel: In my opinion it has a better story than Bioshock, as it actually invokes proper emotion. I felt really sympathetic to Jackie's plight, there are times in the game that are incredibly jarring and others that take you the extreme opposite.

Paulie is a prick and they managed to convey that without him being the typical "evil overlord" character that others in his position are.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Weezer Dude Recommends Real Guitar Over Fake Guitar]]> I'm an actual guitar teacher and I love Guitar Hero but for the exact opposite reason.

If it can make the deluge of people who seem to think that because they can play the intro to Smoke on the Water or belt out a shitty 4/4 two-chord extravaganza that they're qualified to play guitar disappear, then I'm all for it.

Some of the things these people do should not be inflicted upon any instrument, even the kazoo.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Down And Dirty With Saints Row 2's New Features]]> @truhuman: It was a great time walking up to a Friendly Fire, buying an RPG, holding them up with it and having the owner say "Motherfucker! You just bought that from me, didn't you?"

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on PlayStation 3 Ads, Where's Waldo?]]> A bleak, barren wasteland.

Describes the ps3 experience perfectly.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Puzzle Quest 1.5 Gets Named, Detailed]]> @lionkitten: Puzzle Quest has been on pretty much every single platform currently in existence, and it's made them a ton of money. Not having the new one on every platform once again would be seriously retarded.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Bugs And All, Ships 2 Million]]> Vegas 2 was pretty much exactly what I expected, a slight improvement over Vegas. The new reload cancel technique, new weapons, ACES system etc. sll make it better.

If you didn't like Vegas 1 you probably won't like this, but it was one of my favourite shooters so this was pretty much a no brainer.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on PlayStation Store Update, Official In US Too]]> A pub with no beer is still an incredibly unfun place to hang out in no matter how nice it might look.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Blizzard Versus Glider: The Motions]]> It should be noted that this is a rather important case as I believe it's the first time that a EULA has been used as a basis for a trial.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on 50 Cent Sequel To Feature Bloody Sand]]> Looks like the PS3 finally gets its killer app.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Gears of War 2 Direct Feed Tech Demo]]> Big cube of meat! Heh

Gears 2 is going to be Epic, truly.

I'm really impressed with the new fluid dynamics. Also the destructible environments are fucking awesome. What would be even more awesome is if you can actually shoot through floors after blowing the floor out.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Game Guns Are Fun Guns, Not Real Guns]]> It always disappoints me at how completely unaccurate guns are portrayed, even in supposedly "realistic" games.

Guns are LOUD. I mean, really loud. Firing one is a pretty scary experience until you get used to it, and even then it can be jarring.

Shotguns are actually amazingly accurate from short to mid range, whereas in games they hit everything but what you're actually aiming at.

I also have to wonder exactly why people who use guns in-game have so little knowledge of how to operate them. About 90% of the recoil in most weapons could easily be eliminated if they actually use the stock the weapon has provided. You'd think most of these people are holding the gun completely at arms length while firing.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Hot Shots Golf: Out Of Bounds Review: Insert Golf Term]]> @enewtabie: Yes, people put up with it on the PC. A large reason people buy consoles is because they don't want to have to go through all the tedious shit that PC gaming consists of.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on The Great Crackdown Markdown]]> "An Impressive Ascent, Agent. It's very rare for agents to reach heights of this magnitude."

But I walked up some stairs...

The announcer kicked all kinds of ass.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Hammer Comes Down On Xbox Live Cheaters]]> I was the only person in my friends list to have a full 1000/1000 gamerscore in CoD4, and I let every damn one of them know about it. Until I got a voice message from one them saying "MILE HIGH CLUB MUTHAFUCKA!" and I felt tears of pride well up in me.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Hammer Comes Down On Xbox Live Cheaters]]> @TRT-X: A valid point, but game usage is tied into a gamertag. For your scenario to be valid, the console would be linked up to live in both cases (to upload the updated gamertag and to redownload it back at home)

No matter which system the game is played on, the fact the game was played is still registered. The only workaround I can see is if you do not access live at all, at which point it wouldn't really matter.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Hammer Comes Down On Xbox Live Cheaters]]> @tei: Not really. Live keeps detailed information about usage statistics. People being banned are those that have earned achievements with means other than playing the game itself. Reading the "Find out more" page would tell you that.

If someone has a full gamut of achievements for a game but have never played it beyond putting it in the 360 then something is very suspicious.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Hammer Comes Down On Xbox Live Cheaters]]> @tei: It's Microsoft's service, they can do whatever the hell they like. People agreed to that when they signed up.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on N+ Devs Clear Up Live Arcade Shit Talk]]> I own a PS3 and i'd have to agree that Super Stardust is pretty crap.

I'm going to get lynched, I know it.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Fallout 3 Has Over 200 Endings]]> There's also that the endings may possibly not actually be at the predefined end of the game. You becoming a member of a cult that lobotomizes all new inductees might be pretty shitty ending but it's still one.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Darwinia Coming To Xbox 360]]> @flukielukie: God, Monopoly would be a license to print money. Give the basic game as a 800 point download and go to town on the DLC, they'd make a fortune.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Xbox Live Arcade Gets TiQal Ish This Week]]> I could have sworn Switchball has already been updated. I remember downloading one a while ago and all the very, incredibly noticable screen-tearing was virtually non-existent now and general performance was vastly improved.

I guess more improvement isn't a bad thing.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Sony: PSP Portable Copy Not Coming with 2.2]]> I highly doubt it will be anything other than Sony movies. What exactly is the incentive for other companies to adopt this tech? It's just far more effort than it's worth.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Rock Band Hits Wii on June 22]]> HEY HARMONIX. HEY GUYS, CAN YOU HEAR ME?! I'M ON THIS VERY LARGE CONTINENT SOMEWHAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EARTH. IT'S CALLED EUROPE, YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD OF IT?

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on European PS3 Games Get A Price-Cut]]> @excel_excel: I imagine the allure of Giant Enemy Crabs was also pretty great.

Their accurate representation in games has been very much neglected, much to my chagrin.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on A Basket Full Of Easter Eggs]]> There was also the first-person recreation of Pac-Man in Wolfenstein 3D

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on A Basket Full Of Easter Eggs]]> Quake 2 had a pretty good one. There was a Strogg (forget which model, possibly a Berzerker) being showered in affection by two Iron Maidens.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Classic Literature Gets the Game Treatment]]> @schizorogue: Not to turn this into Literature Review or anything, but I'd have to 100% disagree with this statement.

I've read the entire series and I really, really wish I could have that portion of my life back. Never has so much been written by so few that said so little.

There were times amidst the braid-tugging and dress smoothing when I actually thought the plot was going to go somewhere but it turned out be much more vigirous braid-pulling and more ferocious dress-smoothing. Then to add one pathetic insult to a whole host of injury he went and died before it could reach any sort of conclusion (I carefully omitted "satisfying")

I'm very bitter about this.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Do Games Really Need Writers?]]> Well Spore has procedurally generated content and music, the next logical step is the writing.

Games would probably be far better off, anyway.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on TF2's Romantic Shenanigans]]> Oh my god this is so awesome! It's taken the tired old stereotype that every girl you speak to on the internet is actually a man and makes it totally original by inserting two tired cliches of characters to make something completely unexpected and geeky!

Amazing!

TF2 is a fun game and all but I can't help but see the TF2 characters as something Disney/Pixar would create to hide the fact that there's really nothing interesting and that they've probably taken several steps backwards but HERE'S A DRUNKEN SCOT! HE'S GOT A BOTTLE OF MOONSHINE! Isn't this totally incredible.

Chalk me up as one of those bitter old QW:TF/TFC players, I guess.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Ikaruga Achievements *Mostly* Doable]]> Do people really have that much trouble with Ikaruga? It's fairly easy by most shooter standards. It's a bullethell game but you can reduce bullets significantly by not actually shooting (as said, most fire is countering your own), and a large amount of that can be absorbed.

I guess most people try to play it as a "must kill everything!!!" game, which is pretty counter-productive.

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Activision Force Sierra To Sing For Their Supper]]> @Paladin58: Which of course relies on the assumption that they would not be quality games, irregardless of whether or not they're "rehashes"

CoD4 is a rehash of pretty much every CoD game so far, the only real difference being that it's set in modern times instead of WW2. It might aswell be a complete reskin of CoD2, as the gameplay hasn't really changed at all. But it's heralded as a marvel of modern ingenuity. Strange.

<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Ikaruga Rumored To Hit XBLA By April]]> Worth noting that April 1st falls on a Tuesday this year, making it ripe for an "announcement".

]]>
<![CDATA[Dioxen commented on Haze Is PS3 Exclusive "For Now" (Sigh)]]> Haze looks incredibly boring. The 360 has a glut of shooters, I think it can afford to pass out on a very mediocre one especially as it has a whole host of excellent ones.
