The millions of you passionately following the chip manufacturing plans of the Xbox 360 might be a little disappointed to find out that the 65nm process CPUs from Chartered will be shipping later than expected. According to Digitimes and their "industry sources", the delay in moving to the newer, cooler chips will be delayed by at least a quarter.
So what does a mid-2007 chip manufacturing change mean to you, Joe Consumer? It leads one to conclude that Microsoft won't see the financial benefit of moving to smaller chips, which could also lead to a potentially later price drop. It also means that cooler-running chips are now just that much farther away, meaning cooler-running, possibly more reliable Xbox 360s aren't coming in the spring.
Ultimately, since I'm a selfish prick, what does it mean to me? I'm going to continue to hold out on that Xbox 360 purchase.
