The Witcher Developers Abandon DRM Forever

The Witcher Developers Abandon DRM ForeverThe developers behind The Witcher series are done with DRM for its PC games. Seriously. It says that no game the company releases going forward will have any kind of DRM whatsoever.

"Every subsequent game we [release] will never use any DRM anymore, it's just over-complicating things," CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski said during a GDC presentation last week.

"DRM does not protect your game," he later explained to Joystiq. "If there are examples that it does, then people maybe should consider it, but then there are complications with legit users."

It's great seeing a developer publicly acknowledging the practical reality that DRM only punishes loyal customers. Even if that same developer could use some work on the other side of the coin; namely, how it goes after alleged pirates.
