Games publisher Midway, distributor of my very favorite arcade shooter CarnEvil, has snapped up the rights to many of the Epic Games back catalogue. Unsurprisingly, the very first puppy they plan to unleash is an all-inclusive Unreal package:
Priced $29.95 in the US, Unreal Anthology will be made up of the original single-player first-person shooter and its Return to Na Pali expansion pack, Unreal II: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004. The latter pairing will be the Game of the Year and Editors Choice Editions respectively.
But back to CarnEvil for a moment. I've beaten this Insane Clown Posse shooting gallery excuse for a game twice, the second time just days ago in a dimly-lit arcade off some filthy alley in downtown Chicago. My friend gestured at the interior of the shop as we passed by, accidentally smudging a clean spot into the greasy glass. "That's where I saw it," he murmured. I squared my shoulders. "Let's go."
If you haven't played CarnEvil, you're depriving yourself of the best maggot-launching, zombie clowning, santa clause-shooting, pump-action shotgunning, dirigible-exploding adventure of all time. It took less than $5 of tokens and we beat the fucker, with a little less than 50% accuracy on both guns (shameful). My wrists still hurt a little.
