Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime writes in a new CNet Perspective editorial that if technology companies want to find new avenues for profit, they should focus less on old ways of thinking and look to creating products that are smaller, cheaper and easier to use. He says, quite simply, the "next generation of R&D should balance what's under the hood with what users want to hold in their hands." More »

Normally, the mainstream media can't say enough nice things about the Wii. From giving old folks one more reason to crawl out of bed for the 30,000th time to fostering family gameplay to getting portly youth off their cellulite ridden asses, the media is all about Nintendo's Blue Ocean strategy. More »

The New York Times is reporting that the Nintendo Wii has "upset the order of the video game world" leading them to claim that the only console seaworthy of navigating the Blue Ocean is leading the PLAYSTATION 3 in buzz and sales. It should come as little surprise that Nintendo reported record profits today for the end of their third quarter, selling millions upon millions of things worldwide. What kind of things? How about 3.19 million Wiis? Would you believe 1.5 million Virtual Console games? Can I possibly impress you with nineteen Nintendo published titles that sold more than a million copies in nine months? More »

I sat down this afternoon to start transcribing Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's keynote for the Game Developers Conference. I had taped the whole thing, and concentrated on liveblogging it instead of taking down quotes. More »
