GameSpot and 1up.com both have stories up about the Piper Jaffray financial predictions for the games' industry. The catch is that both sites have slightly conflicting information.
By the numbers, analysts have Microsoft's Xbox 360 selling 19.5 million units by 2008, with PS3 at 15.5 million and the Revolution at 5 million units (the Sony/Nintendo estimates are based on a late-2006 release date for the consoles). 1up.com reports "by 2008, PlayStation 3 will have grabbed 45-50 percent of the hardware market, with Xbox 360 barely trailing at 35-40 percent and Nintendo dropping to a minority share of 15 percent." These numbers aren't adding up because these estimates are Piper Jaffray's estimates for the cycle, not through 2008. In 2008, Microsoft will be clinging to a lead.
Most surprising in all of this are the poor estimates for Nintendo. I guess Piper Jaffray's analysts aren't hooked on playing games with a remote control.
