Repairs have been made to the controls, the camera system, and inventory access, while gameplay tweaks should make car handling a bit more enjoyable. They've tuned the spectral vision system so less is required to complete the game, tweaked the 59th Street level difficulty by adding another checkpoint and clear voice directions, and have even added a brand new action sequence in Episode 6 exclusive to the PS3 version of the game. Hell, they may have even tightened up the graphics on level 3, though I have no official confirmation. More »

The company announced its quarterly results today, seeing $40.3 million in revenue for the quarter ending June 30. That's much better than the quarter from the previous year, if you don't have your earnings spreadsheets handy and translates to reported net income of $3.5 million. Sure, Bagel Mondays probably aren't returning any time soon and toner cartridge rations will still be in effect at all Atari offices, but it's better than losing nearly twelve million bucks. More »

We got a bunch of tips telling us that the Xbox 360 version of Alone in the Dark had turned up on BitTorrent sites. 2. Scandinavian games site GameReactor (The Norwegian edition specifically) were one of the first to review Alone in the Dark. They gave it 3/10. Ouch. However, they then promptly pulled the review, and accusations of shady dealings were levelled against the site by Atari, who said that press copies had only been sent out the day before (the review has since been reinstated, and the 3/10 stands). Odd, seeing as many other European publications also had reviews go live this week, but whatever. 3. German site 4Players reviews the game. Gives it 68%. Then is threatened with legal action by Atari because, yes, Atari had no idea how the site got a copy of the game. More »

He doesn't really shed a whole lotta new light on the game, which is fine because the included in-game videos do plenty of that. If you watch through the entire interview you'll get a look at the game's new DVD menu interface, how the game uses items and weapons together, some nice cut-scenes and a bit of the puzzles. It's definitely worth a watch for fans of Alone in the Dark. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the franchise from back in the day. Even though this game looks pretty slick, I'm still worried it won't live up to my memories of playing the game back in the early 90s. More »

It's as if they buffed him up, renamed him Edward Carnby and plastered his face all over the European Limited Edition for Alone In The Dark for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. He's on the cover of the Official Soundtrack CD, the Making Of DVD, and splashed throughout the pages of the bound art book. Hell, they've even included a figurine of Neo Carby for you to play bullet-time with in the bathtub. It's all wrapped up in a rather nifty looking box that will completely fail to fit on the shelf with the rest of your game collection, securing it a cherry spot above your mantle. All I can say is whoa...I hope we get something similar stateside. Not to sure about the game but I love having boxes of Limited Edition stuff lying around. More »

The technology Eden Games has integrated into their forthcoming Alone in the Dark continues to impress the hell out of me. From their first installment of their Real World Rules video series, which showed how various objects can be intuitively combined to create weapons and gadgets, to this second episode, which highlights object manipulation on a somewhat larger scale. I particularly love the notion of a health spray that can be used to heal, blind enemies, or be combined with your lighter to create a flamethrower. It might be a long way from fighting undead pirates in a Victorian mansion, but this new AitD could wind up being something just as exciting as the original. More »

Skip The Hard Bits]]> In an interview with OXM, Alone In The Dark producer Nour Polloni has explained that the game's coming bundled with a feature that should help out anyone who suffers from stubby thumbs. If you find yourself stuck on a particular part of the game and are getting sick of replaying it, the game will let you skip straight past it:
We want everybody to be able to finish our game, so one of the other new features we've added is the ability to skip sections using a DVD-style menu if you get stuck.
Only downside is that it'll cost you possible achievement points, but then if you're the type of person who's going to skip on gameplay just to get past a tough bit you probably don't give a flying duck about your gamerscore, either. More »

Ever cheerful in the face of impending doom, Atari has announced that the next game in the Alone in the Dark series is heading to the PlayStation 2 and Wii, along with the previously announced PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions. Hydravision is handling development on the two consoles, with Eden Games of course handling the more current-gennish versions. The developer promises to push both consoles to their very limits, with the Wii version of course getting the requisite Wiimote-specific control scheme. I'll still be getting the game for the 360 myself, but as the screenshots show the Wii version isn't looking too shabby.
