Party night 2, March 6th, 2007: The alchoholics are slowly beginning to accept me as one of their own.
EA is actually hosting two parties this week, the one I went to last night after the Linden Labs one as well as one tonight that focuses on the Wii. Last night's was a relatively classy affair held high atop the Clift Hotel, complete with a smoker's balcony that not one member of the gaming press threw anything off of, I assure you. I decided to be a little more classy in my drinking choices for the evening, sticking to classics like rum and coke, vodka cranberry, and a gin and tonic, which was suggested to me by a nice guy from CGW. Overheard at the party:
"This drink makes me feel like my mom, only less sexy."
Okay, that was me, but in my defense it nearly made the CGW guy choke to death.
This was my first really big press party, and just about everyone was there. Morgan Webb, Adam Sessler, Victor Lucas, who is an amazingly nice guy mind you. I was a little overwhelmed, but the Jessica Chobot told me about the time she fell asleep in her own puke, and I realized these were just normal people. Kinda creepy normal people who offered too much information, but normal people.
As mentioned elsewhere, several games were shown, and here are my impressions.
Portal: Really blurry.
Hellgate London: Really Blurry
Crysis: Slightly blurry
San Francisco Skyline: Extremely blurry, with too much bloom.
After the big announcement (We're making something!) things mellowed out a little, and after watching several TV personalities performing interviews I headed off into the night. Earlier I had taken a taxi to the hotel, which was lovely considering the fact that as soon as I left the party and turned left my hotel was in sight. Special thanks to the enterprising cabbie who managed to charge me $11 to drive me 5 blocks. I salute you sir.
The aftermath of this party was much more mellow. Either I am building up a tolerance, or I picked the right drinks this time. The experiement continues tonight, as we see what sort of fun Sony has up its sleeves. Huzzah!
