A Quick Look at the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Beta

The first look at the online competitive component for Uncharted 4 just went live today. Let’s take a look at how the new versions of Nathan Drake, Sully and Elena fare when running around and trying to kill each other.

Uncharted 4’s multiplayer beta is only open to folks who own Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and a valid save file for the series’ recent HD remake anthology is required to start playing. That means if you’ve had the Nathan Drake Collection sitting around and haven’t played, you’ll need to at least start it to sample the multiplayer.

I played a few matches in the beta this afternoon and had a ton of fun, despite being terrible in general. The necessary caveats here are that I’ve only played small amounts of Naughty Dog multiplayer offerings before: a smidge of Uncharted 3 matches and none for The Last of Us. So I’m not in a position to talk about my short first taste as an iterative experience.

But I can say that I really like mix of fast-paced acrobatics and cover-based shooting. Without rendering a verdict on the virtues of the store integration just yet, I think the functionality of grabbing a purchasable asset was smooth and quick, too. I definitely will be jumping on more tonight. We’ll have more on the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta as it rolls on.
