Resident Evil DS Not So Good

What can I say? I don't really like Resident Evil Deadly Silence for the DS. The game seems to highlight all of the things that annoyed me about the original game (painful camera angles and odd-ball, constantly flipping controls), without introducing a whole lot new to the formula.

On the one hand, it is neat to be able to play the classic horror action title on the DS, and it is a spot on port, but I think sometimes cherished games aren't meant to stay on the original systems.

The game offers up two ways of playing: Classic, which is the original game on the small screen, or Rebirth Mode, which is the DS-touched up version with a couple of plot changes.

The problem with Rebirth mode is that the game's use of touch screen is inconsistent and seems at times forced.

For instance, early in the game you walk into a room and are confronted by two zombies ambling toward you in first-person mode. Instead of using the buttons to slash at them, you need to swipe the stylus across the screen to cut them. That's fine, but most of the other times, you just use the buttons. It's almost as if Capcom felt required to use the touch screen in the game.

When you combine the arbitrary touch screen and microphone use with the out-dated graphics and god awful voice acting you're left with a game that seems designed to cash in on the novelty of being able to replay a 90s classic on the go.

I loved the original, but this version just makes me question my judgment.
