Ash is a rabbit and the prince of Hell. His questionable interactions with a rubber ducky have been photographed by the paparazzi. As a result, embarrassing images have spread across Hell's version of the Internet—the Hellternet—which is full of porn, gossip, ads and nice commenters.
That's where the story of Hell Yeah begins, though story isn't the point of Hell Yeah. Silly gore is.
"Basically, the idea of the game was: How much fun can you have killing monsters?" the game's lead developer, Camille Guermonprez told me, as he used a giant hand to squash a monster between two virtual finger-tips. Later, he was attacking a cute pile of feces that had a chainsaw sprouting from its head to punish people who would trample it in the afterlife.
Hell Yeah is a Metroidvania, which means it's a 2D exploration-and-killing game that encourages you to explore, find or buy upgrades for your character, backtrack and explore and kill some more. This is a comedy Metroidvania. I don't think we've had many of those.
The game is nuts.
Watch the video above for proof, as Guermonprez talks us through the action.
Check Hell Yeah out this summer as a downloadable game on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Steam through its publisher, Sega.
