The Next Kinect Will Read Your Lips, Know What You’re FeelingEvan Narcisse11/28/11 10:55amFiled to: KinectXbox 360Xbox144EditPromoteShare to KinjaToggle Conversation toolsGo to permalink If you look at the fancy Kinect Effect commercial (seen above) Microsoft's been airing for the one-year anniversary of its best-selling motion-sensing camera, then you're led to believe that all sorts of innovations might be made manifest via the device's current iteration.AdvertisementBut Kinect 2 might be even more mind-blowing, if a new report at Eurogamer is to be believed. Eurogamer's Wesley Yin-Poole writes that whatever replaces Kinect will be so accurate that it'll be able to read your lips and facial expressions to interpret your emotional state. Higher-resolution capture and a direct connection to a beefier chipset will allow for an exponential increase in capabilities, says an unnamed source:"It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?" our source said.Considering how processor technology usually takes huge evolutionary leaps with regularity, none of this seems all that unlikely. What's up in the air is whether we'd see such functions built in the next Xbox or as another stand-alone peripheral. And, of course, it's anyone guess as to when Microsoft's future game console will debut or what it'll even look like. But, if Kinect 2 becomes as powerful as speculated, it will know you, user, better than you even know yourself. Yes, it will.
