Grisly Unreal mod The Haunted, winner of the 2010 "Make Something Unreal" contest, has been snapped up by THQ and will be released as an honest-to-goodness commercial game featuring gore-splattering hellspawn later this year. Meet The Haunted: Hells Reach.
The "third-person survival horror shooter" hits the PC in October, with releases for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade due in early 2012. As one can see in the game's announcement trailer and a couple gameplay videos in the gallery above, this is a very violent, very dark shoot 'em up that piles on the punching, kicking and shooting combos and swarms players with dozens of ready-to-burst bad guys.
THQ's Valusoft division promises The Haunted is "guaranteed to have horror enthusiasts and hardcore gamers at the edge of their seats throughout the entire nail-biting experience," which sounds like it will require some dexterity.
The Haunted: Hells Reach packs in lots of playable characters, stages, upgradeable weapons and dudes to eviscerate for the $20 asking price.
