Underwater Love

The wonderful Fantasia Fest has announced the movie line-up for this year! And we've rounded up a few flicks that are new to us. Especially this one right here, Underwater Love by Shinji Imaoka, which tells the sordid story of the Kappa beast and it's sexxxy mating habits. Be warned, this movie is 100% NSFW. NSFW! You've been warned.

Iconic creatures of Japanese folklore, kappas inhabit rivers and swamps, where they play sneaky tricks and challenge people to sumo matches. Half humans, half turtles, they feed primarily on fish but have a special hankering for cucumbers and must keep their scalps wet at all times. Kappas have a lesser-known trait as well - some of them have pretty powerful libidos. Asuka, a cheerful thirty-something employed at a fish processing plant, finds that out fast enough. Coming face to face with one such creature, she has little doubt that it will turn her life upside down. The aquatic imp is in fact an amphibious reincarnation of her old classmate Aoki, who had drowned. The kappa works its way into her life, something she sees as a threat to her eventual marriage to her boss, a man incapable of distinguishing romance from sex. The kappa has its reasons, of course - Aoki truly loves Asuka and has come to conquer her heart and save her life.

10,000 Days

From death by fire to death by ice — check out the first trailer for 10,000 Days, which takes place after a massive comet smacked into the world, sparking a new ice age!

10,000 days ago, Comet 23 struck the Pacific Ocean with the magnitude of all the nuclear weapons in the world. The Best Family was among the lucky few who survived the heat blast and fire storms. And then the freezing began. The comet knocked the Earth away from the sun, encasing the planet in snow and ice. For those who survived, life was violent and dangerous.

The daily battle wasn't just against the punishing climate but against each other for the basic necessities that meant life or death. Still, the weather was growing colder and the ice was expanding. Villages were being crushed by violent tremors. And then the Becks found an object from the past, buried deep in the ice. And with it came a choice. A choice that could either save them or destroy them.

Aversion

Yet another interesting film from Fantasia Fest by GF Roberts. We really love the look of this demonic little flick.

Private investigator Alex Stokes isn't the type to take the best care of himself, but he will take any case that comes his way. How can he resist when a mysterious man asks Stokes to follow his alluring wife, a task he'll pay quite handsomely for? It seems like a pretty routine gig to Stokes until Claire, the woman he has been hired to watch, attempts suicide. His rescue leads to romance. It's not just the sparks of love that are flying, though, but the cinders of the fires of hell as well. Stokes has unwittingly planted himself at the epicenter of a maelstrom of demonic manifestation!

Cubism

And finally, here's a fun little short by Nyna Wee at Stuttgart Media University, which appears to be about the cooler cousins related to Despicable Me's minions.
