Are game developers creating games, or are they creating art? In the case of the ten creators showcased in flavorwire's "10 Artists Who Use Video Games as Their Medium" I suspect it might be a little bit of both.
These are small, modest titles like Steph Thirion's Eliss, seen above. An interactive artist by trade, Thirion's 2009 iPhone game Eliss went on to win numerous accolades including an Independent Games Festival nomination and IndieCade's Auteur Award. Not bad for a simple game of moving colored blobs with your fingertips.
Many of the artists that made flavorwire's list have been featured on Kotaku in the past. Hell, Ian Bogost of Cow Clicker fame once acted as a guest editor for the site. If anyone knows where to find the art in games, it's that guy.
