Minecraft Is Just One Of The 391 Indie Game Festival Entrants You Should Know

The 13th annual Independent Games Festival has named the nearly 400 entrants vying for awards in this year's competition, an impressive list that includes surprise hit Minecraft, Cave Story, Explosionade and hundreds more. And you can preview every single one.

The record number of entries in this year's IGF battle including plenty of games we've played and covered, including real-world chore RPG EpicWin, turn based strategy game Skulls of the Shogun, inventive puzzler Slam Bolt Scrappers, and old school platformer Bit.Trip Runner. Other entries include indie horror adventure Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the addictive one-button orbital arcade game Faraway, and four-dimensional brain twister Miegakure. Oh, we could go on and on.

But you'll probably want to check out all these games for yourself, if only to see if Contrasaurus: Defender of the American Dream lives up to its name and pitch: "You are a dinosaur. The year is 3,700 B.C. You are summoned into the future to save America from the dark Communist forces that are amassing in Nicaragua."

Or you may want to see how Nidhogg, a "2 player fencing game with football and platforming elements" actually plays.

Or you may simply be curious about the vertical shmup set in Jamestown or this escape from Alcatraz point and click adventure in which you play as a husband and wife team.

With 391 games awaiting your perusal, you'd better start now.
