You know how we told you that Microsoft's secret "Project S" game played a lot like Age of Empires? Well, that's probably because it was Age of Empires. Namely, a new game called Age of Empires Online.
Revealed today by Microsoft, the game takes Age of Empires' real-time gameplay and adds some social, online twists like persistent gameplay, new multiplayer features, levelling up and even quests. The game also has a new, cartoony art style.
Basically, it looks like Age of Empires started hanging out with Farmville, and the two got real close.
Developed by Robot Entertainment, which is comprised of former Age of Empires developers, it's a free-to-play online game that runs through Games for Windows Live. You can sign up for the beta here.
