Dragon Age II Seems Like It Will Be Very Different [UPDATE]S

The first details we saw about Dragon Age 2 were not shocking. New game, new hero. The second batch of details? Consider the eyes of Kotaku raised.

Over on the official Dragon Age 2 webpage, we've got ourselves some sequel details to ponder:

* Embark upon an all-new adventure that takes place across an entire decade and shapes itself around every decision you make.
* Determine your rise to power from a destitute refugee to the revered champion of the land.
* Think like a general and fight like a Spartan with dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of battle whether you are a mage, rogue, or warrior.
* Go deeper into the world of Dragon Age with an entirely new cinematic experience that grabs hold of you from the beginning and never lets go.
* Discover a whole realm rendered in stunning detail with updated graphics and a new visual style.

"Updated graphics"? Cool. Graphics were not very good in Dragon Age 1.

"New visual style"? What's that mean? Probably not the 3D Dot Game Heroes visual style, at least.

"Dynamic new combat mechanics that put you right in the heart of the battle"? Hmm. The PC version of Dragon Age 1 (really called Dragon Age: Origins) allowed gamers to play from an overhead perspective, either pausing the action or playing in realtime. The console versions only allowed the game to be played from more of a behind-the-character perspective. The phrasing here implies a closer combat perspective, no?

The dragon on those boxes looks like the dragon on some promotional artwork EA packed into this year's Dragon Age: Origins expansion pack, Awakening. That art promised something Dragon Agey for February 1, 2011.

UPDATE:
So much for February. EA's press release for the game, which was issued a few hours after this story was published, pegs the game for a March 2011 release.
