Lara Croft Gets A StreetS

Lucky her! Back in July, the city of Derby, UK asked for suggestions for new roads. After getting more than a hundred suggestions, the city council narrowed down the choices to eight, including Lara Croft Way.

The BBC reports that other options were footballer Steve Bloomer and engineer George Sorocold.

Those choices were voted on via the internet. And Lara Croft Way has been selected by 89 percent of the 27,000 individuals who voted. Via the internet. I know, we're shocked.

"The vote really captured the imagination of people from across the world and, despite my lack of gaming knowledge, I accept that a majority of 89% for Lara Croft is too overwhelming to ignore," Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transportation, told the BBC. "She was created in Derby and deserves to stand alongside some of the more traditional icons of the city."

Lara Croft was created by Derby-based Core Design. The studio was shuttered in 2006.
