BioShock 2 PC's Missing Gamepad Support Also Pissing People Off

The lack of true widescreen support in the recently released BioShock 2 isn't the only shortcoming that has PC gamers steamed. The lack of gamepad support, including the Xbox 360 controller, isn't sitting well with the typically keyboard-and-mouse loving crowd.

The official 2K Games forums (and the Kotaku tips line) is teeming with unhappy PC gamers who want to play BioShock 2 and want to play it on a gamepad. But that's not in the cards right now, as 2K Games says it is "just supporting keyboard and mouse" controls. Why?

"We made quite a number of significant changes to UI / HUD for the PC version of the game," notes to Cult of Rapture's BioShock PC Q&A. "The decision was made early on not to support controllers at all in order to ensure that we got the mouse and keyboard control absolutely right. This of course required a redesign of large parts of the UI and the player HUD. For example, we removed the Weapons and Plasmid Selection Radials in favor of a custom created Weapons Selection Strip which more accurately reflects the keyboard layout."

Whether 2K is willing to update the game to support gamepad support will likely depend on how squeaky the wheels get. For now, buyer beware: if you're attached to your gamepad, don't plan on using it in BioShock 2 any time soon.
