Earlier this week, Bungie's Lars Bakken strongly implied that Halo: Reach would be the last Bungie-made Halo title. Bakken now suggests that the studio is close to getting a publisher for its new, non-Halo IP.
Says Bakken to Eurogamer:
I think internally we'll know sometime soon. I don't handle these things, but I'd imagine we're going to know way before we make the public announcement of who's handling that! But sure, I think those talks are, I guess, close.
This project has been ongoing for more than a year; little is known about what it entails, other than Bungie isn't constrained to a specific platform for its new IP. But a good guess would be some sort of multiplayer shooter. Stick with what you know, right?
