Yay! New person! Hello new person!!

Today, I purchased a can of A&W root beer for the equivalent of two bucks. I am pretty sure it is the best money I will spend this week. I've noticed that many of the locals here don't like root beer (or Dr. Pepper, for that matter), saying both taste like medicine. Are root beer and Dr. Pepper things only (some) Americans like? Or do lovely people from various other countries enjoy these fine beverages as well?
