The newly launched in North America Nintendo Channel shows off the first batch of WiiWare titles to hit Western shores, revealing potential pricing on at least one of the debut games. The initial quintet of potential WiiWare releases—revealed by way of the "What Is WiiWare?" video—includes the following.
- Dr. Mario Online RX
- LostWinds
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
- Defend Your Castle
- Critter Round Up
Dr. Mario Online RX is shown priced at 1000 Wii Points, more commonly referred to as $10 USD. While we're not taking this as 100% confirmed yet, we will continue to be able to sleep soundly tonight assuming that the five titles listed above are prime candidates for next Monday's launch.

I'm so excited for this. I love indie gaming.
I'd like to take this minute to whore out my studio's first game, Critter Round-Up. Yes, it looks cute, but there's a ton of real, fun gameplay in there. 4 player co-op is worth it all by itself. OK, I'm done whoring. Well, at least for today...
Seems I'll be buying 4 out of the 5.
Seems I'll be buying 4 out of the 5.
Double post?
@roland13x:
I watched a video about the game and it's definitely an instant download for me. I love the art style, and it looks like fun to boot.
Forget Dr. Mario... Defend Your Castle?!
Now HERE's a Wii game I can see myself playing for more than a half-hour!
@Mini-Boss:
You should see the multi-player. It's insanity.
This will EASILY be the best way to blow five bucks on a Wii download that isn't Bubble Bobble.
I am conflicted in that I still, to this day, play Dr. Mario on my NES (Guess what I was doing a half hour ago) and I am unsure if the new version will be different enough to warrant the purchase.
Dr. Mario and Lost Winds have me sold, but I wonder if some of the games will a sweeter price point. I know I'm being cheap.
Online Dr. Mario? Sign me up. Like double sign me up.
if you guys read gamespy's article about WiiWare, theyre highly recommending Critter Round Up, also as Wired impression of how fun it is.
Its being overshadowed by other big name games that kinda suck compare to low profile game that is good and fun to play.
Probably Lost Winds and Dr Mario for me. I better start cleaning out that fridge :(
LostWinds has me pretty much sold. I'll probably try Critter Round up b/c of the impressions.
Defend Your Castle looks really interesting, but this list needs moar Pokemon Ranch.
I mean come on, I've got like <20 open spaces in my PC boxes. = [
i always liked Dr.Mario on the 64
even if it just a variant of tetris, if you put Mario and co. on it, along with catchy music, it gains a certain charm (hell, EVERYTHING does)
first-day purchase, 'nuff said
Sweet, Dr. Mario for launch.
I might take my Wii to a friend's place to download this, no laptops in my place means no Wi-fi
Awesome, I been waiting for Dr. Mario for any of the newer Nintendo consols for a while now.
As soon as Dr. Mario comes out, I'll probably never finish GTA IV or any other game I have. I've been dying for an online version since the DS wi-fi first launched.. and Dr. Mario was not available.
I will definitely have to get Dr. Mario. That is the game that got my Grandmother (yes, Grandmother) hooked on the NES and eventually led her to giving my mom and dad one which led to me playing games at age 2. Were it not for Dr. Mario, I might not have been the big gamer I am today.
Much love and respect for Dr. Mario!
Dr. Mario? Sold! I don't even know what the "online" part of the game is, and I don't care. Whatever it is, it's just extra to having Dr. Mario.
Where's the Pokemon one?! I want my Mew!!
Damn! i haven't downloaded anything besides the free stuff for the wii... now i will have to spend some real money....
Lost Winds is an instant buy for me!
@Trowble (XBL/PSN):
Unlike xbox live and PSN the wiiware and vc games sell at a steady rate.
Last time Microsoft mentioned paid downloads on xbox live arcade it was one paid per like five demos versions. The lack of mention of any sales figures in comparison to non paid downloads should also be of concern.
Nintendo was right to not have people do demos since they seem to kill 75% of sales.
you had me at Dr. Mario. where do i sign up dammit! :D o man, time to lose my mind again.
Great! Psyched for these. That is, as soon as Nintendo figures out where the hell I'll be storing them. Getting the Nintendo Channel on there was hard enough. Come on, guys. Seriously.
MONDAY?! CRAP, I HAVE FINALS THAT WEEK. Screw you Nintendo!
That said, I am looking very much forward to the new Crystal Chronicles. Hopefully it is more similar to the Gamecube one than the DS one was (granted, I didn't play the DS one all that much... downloaded it.. played for an hour, deleted it).
@ncsbert: I could've sworn that Pokémon Ranch was a launch title, but I haven't heard anything about it for a while.
Come to think of it, have there been ANY updates about it lately?
@spiderweb1986:
If anyone believes Wikipedia, the launch titles are as follows:
Defend Your Castle
Everyone's Pokemon Ranch
FFCC: My Life as a King
Gyrostarr (why have I heard nothing of this, it sounds cool)
LostWinds (what is this?)
Major League Eating: The Game (wtf?)
Protöthea
Star Soldier R
Toki Tori
All set as May 12th, 2008 release in North America.
Helix also has a generic May 2008 release.
@sugardeath:
Oh, and add Dr. Mario to that.
@sugardeath:
The wii one is a sim game. The adverturers you send out just give a report. There are tons of previews of the game. It's still a fleshed out game that tries something new from Square-Enix.
"Gyrostarr (why have I heard nothing of this, it sounds cool)
LostWinds (what is this?)"
Ign.com has covered both. IGN.com was who broke news of Gyrostarr along with "The Conduit"
Seriously do some reading every major Nintendo fansite has covered the wiiware game data that has been revealed including Animles De La (shit cannot spell it) well it's like Billy and Mandy but you use chainsaws and other weapons to destroy zombie animals in the most bloodiest way.
@spiderweb1986:
Several websites have covered it. There is a lot more to it then people think such as it telling where in Diamond and Pearl are certain pokemon as well as that you can get a Mew as well as that it can store 1500 pokemon from Diamond and Pearl.
Dr. Mario on Monday?? Only a day late for Mothers Day, but oh well.. it's one of her favorite videogames, so I'll definitely buy it!
Crystal Chronicles and Lost Winds are must buys as well, and I'll look into the other two before purchasing them. ^.^
Hey, wheres my Star Soldier R?
(If someone answers "In Japan!", you can go "FXXX YOU", CPS1 "Cadillacs & Dinossaurs" style.)
Dr.Mario has/had huge, huge ass following in the old days, it was one of those games that crossed the causal/hardcore lines and reaped the rewards. A online version is going to make Nintendo millions and millions of dollars.
Awesome! I want LostWinds so bad... it looks like it might help fill the gaping hole in my soul that currently awaits Zak & Wiki 2.
@Shiryu:
it's been ESRB rated. They are staggering the wiiware releases after all.
Ugh, I don't have enough time to play all of these games.
little too much money for dr mario i think.
Buying Dr. Mario, Defend Your Castle, and Lost Winds. The Jury's still out on My Life as a King.
the real question is fever or chill? :)
Dr. Mario is a definite. It looks amazing.
I can see Dr. Mario: Online Rx to be a must buy... considering my family (mom's) addiction to the game.
I hope they don't mess up the music as Fever & Chill tunes are classics, while Qube (included with Dr. Mario 64) is a pretty good tune as well...
