No PSN version?
The price is the only thing. It's Penny Arcade, but I'd like to know how much the other episodes will cost.
Why no PSN release?
Hooray!
1600's a bit much, isn't it?
Penny Arcade sucks.
Yay, non-Intel Mac release!
@Sean Bryant:
Unneeded.
Personally, I was hoping for a more Point n' Click Adventure type game. You know, more puzzle solving, less action.
@mywhitenoise: Hate to...hate, but I agree somewhat. This game is awful from what I've seen. Really, really hate them for doing it.
@Bernard McGraw: 1600 is $20... same as PC release. I'm surprised it's not more.
It looked ok, but 1600 is a litte more then I care to spend on it, at least for now. Maybe a demo will sway me, but...doubt it.
I'll ask this again since nobody seems to know...
Why do all of the characters have red noses?
No matter how many times I try I just don't "get" Penny Arcade. Maybe it'll translate better as a game than it does as an online comic. I think I'm just slightly older than their target demograph so most of the hipster modern references fail to crack my funny bone.
The price seems a little steep for an XBLA release. Despite how much I love Penny Arcade, I'll probably have to read some reviews before purchasing.
No love for PSN?
@Tenth: It's way more in England...
Definitely waiting on reviews for this one. I love Penny Arcade and was looking forward to the game but $20 for 1 part of an episodic series is asking a little much IMO.
After only 3 episodes that's the cost of a full retail title.
Who knows, it could be that there's enough content in the game to justify the extra cost and then some, but $20 is a lot to drop to find out.
Ummm...
I really am torn.
Will I buy it for XBLA, where it's most convenient for me to play, or for linux...
I guess it will hinge on a) if it will also run on my Eee, b) if my laptop with a relatively weak card is able to run it properly.
@mywhitenoise: Have my babies!
m for mature? really?
i am really surprised that PA would be deemed inappropriate for teenagers.
i wonder just how violent this game is, because it's certainly not sexual content.
that is, unless FF can be a member of your party. oh, i guess that would get it...
@ExistentialEgg: oh wow PA is far from hipster anything.
anyways i'll be gettin the PC version, but its lame to see theres no PS3 option available, why the lack of love guys?
@mywhitenoise:
Hi troll!
Just wanted to tell you why you are wrong.
"sucks" implies poor quality. Penny Arcade does not have poor quality. The art is good, the writing flows and is coherent, and the characters are distinct and work together.
You do not like it. Which is much different than saying it "sucks."
Bye troll! I hope you get banned!
@Pombar:
Where does it say that? Or is it an expecting "yay"?
Somehow doubt my old eMac would be able to handle it anyway....
Wait, how does a digital-only game "go gold?" It goes against the entire meaning of the damn phrase. On another note, if it's ready (as the going gold bit implies) then why no solid release date?
wow, that IS pricey. Cashing in time.
Hope it's good. I'd like to support the P.A. guys beyond sending cash to their charity. But I ain't buying it if it's no good.
Fingers crossed for the best.
@ExistentialEgg: See, I don't "get" people who say they don't "get" the modern references and stuff. The comic is usually very topical, so most of the time refers to news items you'd see here on Kotaku.
Not a dig at you, just interesting how something that so many people think is "SO exactly what being a gamer is like lol!" (myself included) can be fairly boring/silly/stupid to so many other gamers.
We can agree that Ctrl-Alt-Del is really lazy and unfunny though, right?
wow...twenty dollars is not that much money, untill you stranslate it into xboxlive points then its way too much. @ExistentialEgg: maybe you just havent read the right ones [penny-arcade.com]
@Bernard McGraw: 1600 MS Points equates to about £13.33 going by my calculator. Yeah, that's a bit more than the $ price. But not a huge amount. Certainly not almost-double like so many retail games are here. Pretty pleased tbh, though I think that's still too much money for an episodic game (unless it's got the production values of Valve's so-called "episodic" titles).
@Stratovarius:
Someone who thinks Penny Arcade sucks hardly defines a troll. The person below him who answers the question "why no PSN version" with "unneeded" is however.
People are entitled to have their opinion about comics and it's not trolling if they don't like PA. Just because you love it.
@Kazzahdrane:YES! we can!
@JunkersRoyale:
Say WHAT?!?!?! That one was lametastic! Here's a better one: [www.penny-arcade.com]
@Kazzahdrane: I stand corrected. Thanks for that. And yes, CAD is just fucking awful.
@Kazzahdrane: I agree with you about people not getting it. I dunno, maybe it's not their type of humor?
I'll try the XBOX Live demo before buying. Looks cool to me so far.
@Kazzahdrane: heh. umm... I actually think Ctrl-Alt-Del IS funny. To each their own I suppose. I think I dislike Penny Arcade because to ME they aren't typical gamers at ALL, they remind me of the spoiled brats in high school that I hated from years and years ago.
@LittleBigPlaneteer:
Wait... Some says "Penny Arcade sucks" with no real content to their comment whatsoever, and that's not a troll? At least "no PSN version" is actually commenting on the article that was posted.
"PA sucks" is not on topic, nor is it a valid opinion. Sorry, it's not. It might be an opinion, (I'm still thinking it isn't, but you could make the argument) but it's not a valid one.
To put it in perspective; could you turn in a paper in class about Frederick Douglass and have it say "Frederick Douglass was cool." and expect to get a good grade? No way. Because just saying "yay" or "nay" does not make your opinion valid.
@ExistentialEgg: exactly how old are you? I am 31 and have no problems keeping up with them.
I dislike PA, I've found their humor to be stale and unfunny.
The best thing PA is how they reference "The press" as if they themselves werent a part of the press.
Yawwwwn.
@Stratovarius:
Sorry, misread about the "no PSN version" comment. Disregard that.
@Kazzahdrane: Because, and this is just a thought, really, they generalize gamers on a much larger scale.
It has it's moments, but for the gamer crowd that PA doesn't represent, most of the humor is bound by current events, internet irreverence, and a weird sort of counter-counter culture that feels so incredibly forced.
I applaud them for always attempting to be just a little bit more, but they seem to be shackled by Gabe and Tycho.
The fact that it's popular, I'm sure, has nothing to do with the ire.
The amount of content for that price should be interesting. Though I suspect that the XBLA pricing is that way because it wouldn't be fair to PC users, perhaps?
@Bernard McGraw: That's not good. Is the PC version at least $20?
Wait, is there a release date somewhere?
@Pezdispenser: its funny that it can still be an actual event strip after so many years
also
any words on wiiware?
could be awesome
I don't know if its worth shelling out the money for a game that looks as repetative as this and yes I know im going to get the
"Its the artwork, The humour."
If I want that I will go to the site. But for a game i'd like very strong gameplay.
CAD is only funny because of how bad it is. Remember Tim Buckley, we're not laughing with you... And all of your characters have the exact same stupid expression on their faces! Rawrg!
What's with all the PA hate suddenly cropping up?
@ExistentialEgg: You shouldn't have to try to get Penny Arcade. You either think it's funny or you don't and as Kazzahdrane said, it's fairly topical.
@Candlejack: You hate them for making a game that you haven't played and only seen videos of. That makes no sense.
@zenpoet: I'll be 31 this summer. I don't know what it is then. My humor algorithm must be broken. :(
They need to release this like now so I can give them my money.
