Gawker points out this neat bit of street art found in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, on 9th Street, earlier this week. Unfortunately, the art has since been removed or snagged by some enterprising street walker.

8-Bit Tastic!!
Wow I am going to look for that in GTA IV
Well Everyone this is your last weekend without GTA IV.
After this Monday night your gaming lives may never be the same /melodramatics
Stolen, right after someone fucker tagged it with a sharpie: [flickr.com]
Still, awesome art regardless.
@PresDNA: I can't wait to see my friends list on Tuesday night- not a single soul will be playing anything else. It's going to be beautiful.
*splash splash*
Wow that's some of the best 8-bit street art I've seen. They should've epoxied that sucker right to the pavement.
Fantastic idea and execution! And the notion it got stolen leads me to this phrase: "This is why we cant have nice things!".
Before it got taken down some douche tagged it
[flickr.com]
@Crosswayboy: shit! beat me too it >_<
@Crosswayboy:
Some jerks just can't let anything awesome stand on it's own.
*to
jesus whats is wrong with me today lol
It's Boston all over again...
@Crosswayboy: Someone tagging it probably counts as attempted art theft, and so the person who did it is doubly the douchebag they'd be otherwise.
But I agree, regardless of what idiots do, it's still quite nice to see that public displays of creative art still exist.
That's flippin awesome, too bad douchebags stole it.
That's pretty badass.
Major props to creator
Dear god, this is awesome.
That is so awesome. I would love an actual photo of something like that.
Incredible! It saddens me that some asshat would tag it. Saddens, but doesn't surprise.
That's awesome stuff right there.
This is actually the east village, not the LES. For those who want to check it out, it is between 2nd and 3rd ave on 9th st.
Very awesome. Makes me want to do something like that around my town.
number
1) dat was some dope fucking art.
2) whoever stole it, i hope you wake up in a bed of dogshit,no really.. i hope you do.
3) the tag on it was whack as hell, my 4 year old could do a better tag on his magna doodle, and he's left handed!
4) i hope he does this again, but create a plexiglass cover and bolt it down to the pavement. too bad i didnt get a pic of it, i was down there the other day.
@zanzibarlegend:
Yeah, that tag was sloppy as all hell.
The artwork was beautiful tho.
Too bad about it getting stolen. This sort of stuff belongs in an art gallery.
This tagger better be crying in his soup right now after realizing what he's done.
How did they make that?
@OneManFreakShow: Seriously? It's just plastic or something.
awesome artwork! too bad it got stolededed :[
Why is the street throwing up all over itself and what did it eat?
@ globones:
that thing is still sweet : )
that's sick as hell, but they definitely shouldve epoxy'd it or something.
HA!! me and my girlfriend took pics of this last week.
@Dauragon C. Mikado: oh i know. i was pissed off some asshole had to tag up his freakin name in graffiti....still we took pics before the writing. which was nice.
wow!
this is really creative,
i'm tempted to start doing this around my neighborhood.
Thats cool! That would be awesome on someone's counter somewhere.
This is on woostercollective.com, its a pretty good site, a good collection of street art everywhere.
This is all kinds of win.
Ha! Brilliant!
Looks awesome!
Stupid ghetto places and the people that inhabit them. One of the reasons I hate humanity in general...
I've been trying not to be so cynical and hate-spready, but the piece of shit that ruined this work of art should be eye-fucked.
Fucking taggers. This piece of art belongs in a gallery.
That is fucking awesome! Fucking taggers ruined it, though. Those immature douchebags need something better to do with a marker.
Because of all my years of retro gaming, that looks quite normal too me. Every bird I see also looks like they came out of Duck Hunt.
