First Look At Final Fantasy Agito XIII Battle Screen

Japanese magazine Shonen Jump has a first look at the battle screen for PSP title Final Fantasy Agito XIII. Co-op multi-player play seems like a nice draw here. The game hasn't yet been dated, so don't go holding your breath quite yet. You might pass out.

San Andreas

San Andreas Rolls Onto Xbox Originals

Microsoft are yet to officially announce it, but a listing has appeared on Xbox.com for the digital re-release of 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. We'll take that as announcement enough. It'll be the standard 1200 points, and will go on sale next Monday, October 20. For those left wanting by GTAIV's flat final stages, now's as good a time as any to go back to the days GTA games could get away with alien abduction sub-plots and jetpacks.

Ea

EA Don't Just Make Games, They KILL GAMES

For the past, oh, year or two, EA have been trying to change. Trying to shed that nasty image of the ruthless, money-hungry publishing giant. And they're slowly, oh so slowly, succeeding! Sure, that has a lot to do with Activision emerging as an even more evil company, but it also has to do with EA's new focus on internal IP, which is bringing us games like Army of Two, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge. Part of that new focus is in the area of quality control, boss John Riccitiello telling Gamasutra:
If you want to put good food on the table and you’ve got chefs in the back, you give them better ingredients, better training — and when you burn the omelet, you don’t serve it.

How Did The Koei And Tecmo Merger Start?

In early September, Tecmo rejected Square Enix's "friendly takeover" over. Tecmo is currently in the process of merging with Japanese game maker Koei. Kenji Matsubara, Koei president, described how the merger between his company and Tecmo was initiated:

I heard that Tecmo had declined an offer from Square Enix, and that was when I first thought about the possibility of Koei making an approach. I called a board meeting for the very next day [September 1] to discuss the viability of a merger with Tecmo; we then decided to contact Tecmo, which we did on the same day, and discussions between us ensued; three days later, we were able to make an announcement.

This didn't come out of nowhere as Koei's founders were long-time friends with Tecmo's. While the two companies are still ironing out the final details, Matsubara stated that the two companies' software engineers were excited about future collaborations. Dynasty Warriors Xtreme Beach Volleyball anyone?

Portal: still alive

Portal: Still Alive Has New Achievements

The XBLA version of Portal - Portal: Still Alive - will be with us soon. In an attempt to drum up support for a game that most of you already own in some form or another, the XBLA version will feature new achievements. Twelve of them (it's a little unclear whether these are all of them or just some) have been revealed by Microsoft, and they run from the easy ("Dissolve a Turret") to the not-so-easy ("Complete the game without ever taking a bullet"). If you're interested in seeing whether these will get you to buy the game again, the full list is after the jump. More »

...but without the fake plastic instruments. This ad shows young hipster gathering around with their friends to play a round of "air taiko". And how doesn't love air taiko? The game is out today in Japan, and it should be interesting in seeing how it does. The game will be out in North America next week.

No Games Support PS3 Screengrabs (Yet)

For some reason, people are excited over the PS3's new-found ability to take screengrabs, which was introduced as part of the 2.5 firmware update. You may be less excited to hear that, much like the PS3's trophy system, the feature must be implemented at the developer's end. And as it stands, not a single game supports the feature. Sure, it'll probably be widely implemented in future PS3 games, but again like trophies (in particular, how the developers of most older PS3 games are ignoring them), it's a shame Sony couldn't be a little stricter on maintaining a consistent feature set across the console's library.

Uncharted PS3 Bundle: The Box Art

Hear that chime? It's the box art clock. And it just struck box art o'clock. On offer today is the art for the Uncharted PS3 bundle, which will see one of the console's finest titles stuffed in with a 160GB PS3, a DualShock 3 and a voucher for PSN title PAIN. It'll be out next month, will cost you $500, and if you like fun and think you'll be downloading movies on the PS3, there are plenty worse ways to be introduced to the console.

How Is Sony Pitching LittleBigPlanet To Japan?

Last week, we spent a good ratio of our time in Tokyo haunting the subway lines. We must've seen this LittleBigPlanet ad spot about twenty times. It's cute, but also a little bit frightening. Can Japanese consumers be won over by a wee and mysterious alien planet hovering over a Japanese suburb? Will the two seconds of gameplay footage seal the deal?
