Thought we were kidding when we said Peter Moore bleed neon green? Nope! After getting some strange Wii analogies, Moore's back to moan and groan about Sony's Home. Says the former Xbox employee:
Yeah, I just wish it [Home] would ship. I [previously] questioned it a little bit, whether I'd want to wander around there. Phil Harrison showed me a demo — it's very cool, but let's go already. And so I'm disappointed that it's been pushed back a little bit again. But I really hope it gets going and becomes that portal to the PlayStation Network and we can utilise it. But boy, I just wish we'd get going.
Yeah, totally Peter. It doesn't matter if it's not ready or undercooked. Consumers will deal with it! Stuff breaks, right?

Ho ho! The spin-master is spun in the opposite directon! I wonder if he'll also puke neon green?
I see he still hasn't washed off the Microsoft "get it out the door ASAP and deal with the fuck-ups later" Business Style.
Home is already long overdue. A few more months won't make it any worse; however, a malfunctioning system would.
With that mentality it's no wonder we all had RROD. I don't know anyone who hasn't had it with their launch consoles yet. Myself included...
You'd think the guy would have learned a little about shipping an unfinished breaking product.
It has been delayed again which is annoying but atleast when it comes out people might like it. Phil moans at everything though, he used to toute the 360 all the time and then when he changed job to EA he started to turn on it. Then the Wii analogies and now this.
Peter Moore has his 360 set to Japanese??
@Zsinj: Look at the expression on his face. Clearly it says "Ok.. who's the wiseguy?"
I don't own a ps3, but Home just doesn't excite me. I'd rather invite friends over to do most of the things it advertises (watching movies),and I'm pretty sure my real house has better looking textures...
He isn't serious... is he?
@Antiterra:The issue is, when something takes too long, it will always deliver less then what people think it will, or "The more the hype, the bigger chance of it underdelivering".
Peter's got a point though and working for EA now, Sony's delay of Home not only effects the customers but it effects EA directly because they can't gather any real solid information on how to best work it into their multi-platform games. It will also slow down development of future titles too unless they just forgo putting anything Home related in there at all.
As a SONY consumer ... I REALLY don't trust this guy.
You and us all, Mr. Moore.
I was gonna say that he sounds like he forgot who he works for (not MS) but I guess Home will affect EA too.
He's bleeding EA (what color are they?) now obviously. Shipping products that could have used more work or features just to make quick money is in their DNA.
I'm kidding, Boom Blox is awesome, so thanks EA!
@Foxstar Sixtail: Really good point there Foxstar.
He just wants to get going on the EA section they are going to have in Home.I don't blame him,really.
The advertising space should be worth it.
I'm not sure what the hold up really is.The version I saw seemed to be ok,if not a little laggy at times.
@kspray-dad: What does being a Sony consumer matter? He works for EA and has only ever stated he thinks the PS3 is better than the 360 or going to win the console war but that doesn't matter even if you are a sony consumer.
Wow he has got some balls saying that. lol
"Yeah, totally Peter. It doesn't matter if it's not ready or undercooked. Consumers will deal with it! Stuff breaks, right?"
...Yea, but the truth is...Home is still in beta and what's being delayed is a beta (not a final product). All these delays just further prove that Home will always be in beta and maybe it will be ready when the PS4 launches, but right now Home just seems like disaster.
Once a Microsoft Employee. Always a Microsoft Employee.
You can see it in his eyes.
OMG you commenters are the spin masters! You guys talk shit day in and day out about home not being ready and now you want to make a cheap dig at Peter so you're going to pretend as though you're happy waiting? Whatever!
@enewtabie:Market Research pretty much. They could go full-bore into putting Home stuff into games, but till they see how the market reacts to what's out there, they very likely will not.
@Tiberian:Thanks. I try. The funny thing is, Peter can not be the only guy who feels this way. The PS3 is approaching the two year mark and they still don't have their answer to Live ready, something that has got to tick off the devs to no end and will result in Home being poorly supported by them for the next six months, thus resulting in users wondering what the hell they've been waiting for all this time. It's a dangerous cycle that will end up hurting PS3 users and causing devs to focus more on Live then Home.
@okenny :):I'm not. He has a very, very good point, but only a few people will ever get it.
@One Way Mule: well he was with Sega before so thats obviously not true.. I think it is the fact that EA really want to get working with Home as soon as and the delays are very frustrating to them as well as Sony - it's not really a dig more a get a move on or it'll be DOA
@Foxstar Sixtail:
Well,they will have a large spot in there,of course.I can see the casual play games popping up already.
We all wish it would come out, Peter, but you bitching about it isn't going to help. Besides, as long as I have Metal Gear Solid 4, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (ow, cramp), Wipeout HD and numerous other titles, I think I can wait. It would be funny if they said "Oh yeah, Peter? Yeah!?" and push it back a few more months. It wouldn't be as funny as it is petty.
@okenny :): Satire?
It's still strange to see Moore taking Pringles potshots at Home, though. As if once he's started, he just can't stop.
@JKPierce: Satire... sure ;) I'm sure that's what people are going for.
The fact is no one wants Sony to succeed more then Peter more, every console Sony makes raises his bottom line and pushes him closer to a phat bonus. He said what he said with 100% self-serving sincerity, and as we know, that's the best kind :|
EL-OH-EL Peter. Maybe that's because Sony doesn't want to ship product that will go down every couple of weeks ala LIVE or goes RROD...well, like almost every single one of 360.
I have a hard time wrapping my brain around Sony's 10 year console idea.
Here's an example of the undertone in most of their releases, Sony is again telling me that they're in no hurry to get their releases out, and maybe I shouldn't be in a hurry to get them?
At the same time, the rest of the gaming industry is telling me that I'm going to move from game to game so quickly that it doesn't matter if each one is perfectly polished.
Who's right? We'll see in eight or so years wont we...In a way, Sony is pushing to change the game market just as much as Nintendo, albeit in a totally different direction.
@nuEros:
I think ten years is a great Idea. It does not mean that I need to save my money now so I can get that new Next Gen System that will cost around a thousand dollars.
@nuEros:
I don't know..PS2 is 8 years and still selling and releasing games and the numbers are strong.10 years is a long time though.
Baha ha, Bashcraft my friend, that was funny.
Haha I love that XBox mentality. Rush everything out, despite if it has a 48% failure rate. Still, i love my Xbox, it hasnt yet died in the year ive had it, but it knows im badmouthing it soo we'll see what happens later....
He is an Xbox fanboy! We cant listen to him!
Sorry, Sony doesn't like doing a crappy job on every little thing they produce, they want their software to actually WORK.
@okenny :): Personally, as a member of the Home Beta, I can safely say that I agree with both sides of the argument. Whereas I agree it's sad that this thing keeps getting pushed back, I also have the somewhat unique perspective of having used the thing, and I don't think it's ready. The potential is there, and it's improved a great deal since the beta began, but more needs to be done if it is going to live up to all that was promised (and from what I've seen, they're addressing the concerns sent in from the beta testers very well). When this thing hits, there is going to be a metric fuckton of people flooding it, and that isn't the time to try to polish the floors.
lol @ "stuff breaks, right?"
Ah, Peter...I think it's clear that Sony has really 'underpromised and overdelivered' with home, and I think that they can stop devoting resources to it. It seems to me that the quality of Home is well in line with industry standards, but things do break. I believe that Sony should hire you away from EA, so you can bring to the PS3 all the market savvy you brought to the Dreamcast, and all the tireless devotion to quality and serving the customer that you brought to the 360
@TitillatedOcelot:
You guys on 0.8.3?
lol @ "ya know, stuff breaks" reference
For once, I agree with Peter Moore.
Sony, get on the ball. Get it out the door. At the very least, get the in game XMD.
XMB would be better, of course.
/DOH!
@kspray-dad: As a SONY consumer ... I REALLY don't trust this guy.
Then you're an idiot. Not everything in the industry is some big conspiracy or plot to overthrow (insert company here). Moore gets his money from EA now, he makes more money if BOTH the PS3 and 360 are successful because EA can pull in more money.
Now, if you don't trust him because he's a talking head for EA, that's one thing. But your reasoning behind it being that you're a Sony customer is ignorant.
@TitillatedOcelot:
At least trophies and game launching will be available in the fall/open beta.
@Foxstar Sixtail: I think you nailed it Foxstar. I've heard so much about Home for so long now I fully believe it won't live up to the expectations I've set in my mind. And since all we've seen is screen shots, all I have is my imagination to go on. And my imagination can come up with a far better Home than Sony could every produce.
I hope they prove me wrong, but their recent track record is spotty. (Wow, did I really just write that? C'mon Sony!)
Dr. SP
So where's the Home content Peter? By now I know you have an SDK so show me what you got!
I think Home would come out sooner if Sony was being pushed by the development community by shoving content in their faces that continues to lose money with each delay of Home.
I have two predictions: 1) Home is ultimately dropped because the vision was too big and they didn't plan well before starting the project leading to too many unforeseen problems in trying to connect millions of people together at one. Or 2) Home won't be released until Fall 2009 (I was gonna say Spring but that's just wishful thinking) in order to get enough servers to handle the traffic they anticipate.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the companies have the tools required to impliment Home anyway? Didn't Sony already say that games in development must now include a Home feature in their programming? Just because the public doesn't have access to it doesn't mean the developers don't. I think Peter's being a bit naive here.
Wow, you guys are jerks.
Ya, Home has been delayed forever now, even though it's been constantly promoted, and c'mon guys it definitely deserves a few jabs for that I guess.
How long has the beta test been going on? I think it might be the longest beta ever! He's right man, wtf Sony, get this thing done already!
I can't believe that people can sit here and justify the Home delays as well as all the other Sony delays. People were sold for the last 12 months on the promise of GTA, MGS4, LBP, FFXIII, Home, GT5 and Killzone. Some of these games/features were promnently displayed in their holiday TV advertising as if they were already released.
Fast forward 6 months from the holidays and 1.5 of those games are out. GTA and sort of GT5 with prologue. Obviously MGS is out soon. But the rest is just waiting. As someone who has a PS3, I think it sucks.
Want rumble? Wait. Want a coherent online? Wait. Want the stuff we said you were going to have before? Wait.
And yes, all games and consoles are subject to delays sometimes. But with the PS3, it just seems like EVERYTHING gets delayed.
I don't know what it is about this industry, but it treats consumers like dirt. It's like, oh I bought the car today, and they promised me my Nav system by December, but it got pushed back to next year. That's ok.
Does anyone else get a little creeped out by Moore. Kinda like he might have a BDSM dungeon in his basement, nothing too crazy he'd have safe words and such. But, the guy just looks like he really would enjoy wearing a leather zipper mask...
@enewtabie: I'll have to check tonight. I havne't been on the beta in several days. Something to do with some Grand Theft Something-or-other game. But I check in perioically to see what changes have been made.
"Yeah, totally Peter. It doesn't matter if it's not ready or undercooked. Consumers will deal with it! Stuff breaks, right?"
LOL, awesome sauce.
@Argyle: Who doesn't like leather zipper masks?
Oh. Just me? My bad.
@lionkitten:
Wow, maybe you stick to your 360 because you don't exactly know what you're talking about. For one, everyone knew FF and KZ wouldn't be out till late this year if not in 2009. Advertising is meant to show the potential buyers what is coming as well as what is available. Thats just the way its always been done. Plus Home is not a game so lets not include it in that list.
Second, we have a coherent on-line thank you very much. Excuse us if we don't feel like paying $50 for a couple extra features which aren't critical anyway.
Third, the Cell and BR are basically new technology, it takes time to understand it so delays are expected. If you ask me the only thing that needed delayed the 360 to avoid all those idiotic RRoD's and disc drive errors. You wanna talk about consumers getting screwed over, well I've never seen so many 360 fanboys get screwed out the ass and sit there begging for more.
@lionkitten: I feel your pain man, I have been saying that since PS3 came out. I think it all boils down to the programming difficulties Sony is having versus the programming easiness MS is having.
Guys stop spinning what he said, he clearly stated that he wished it was out already. Nowhere did he say "just put it out, even if it's not ready".
If you don't like delays then you should consider a 360.
@Sparx: I know Square Enix never made an official release date but they did say 08. Considering that originally Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII where being produced for PS2 I think I speak for everyone when I say "damn I thought you'd be done by now".
I hear what you are saying about the new techonology but keep in mind that PS3 dev kits have been out since 05. How long is it going to take for Sony/programmers to get the hang of this? It's been 3 1/2 years already. Why are we still having delays? 3 1/2 years is more than enough to learn this "new" technology.
@lionkitten: To get a decent 360 I have to wait for 2 years and still got RRoD. To get Wii I have to wait in the line and still didn't get it until a few months after.
PS3 isn't all about delay man, we have so many games that rolled out right on time.
Exaggerating isn't good and stop whining.
