Sega's racquetball meets Tron meets Breakout oddity Cosmic Smash may be one more Dreamcast-era property headed for revival territory as the publisher has recently trademarked the title with the USPTO. The arcade title only saw release in Japan and didn't get much attention from gamers as a too late Dreamcast port, but it looks like Sega may be bringing us an update.
Cosmic Smash was developed by the team formerly known as Sega Rosso, probably better known for their Sega Rally and Star Wars arcade game releases. It's almost begging for a WiiWare re-release, as its rather simple in the mechanics and graphics department—perfect for a Wii-remote waggling short session game.

I can see by all the comments this game must have been great!
I completely forgot this game existed... I think I played a demo that came with Official Dreamcast Magazine... maybe?
@Northernsky: I think you did! Apparently, I'm the other person who has played Cosmic Smash. :)
"Have a Blast"
Oh this game had something very relaxing to it.
Remember playing it in Japanese arcades.

T'was unique sounding and looking back in 2001.
Looks like a flash or homebrew game now. Still I'd download it on WiiWare

(sorry for doulbe postin)
Pardon me, but...
OMG!!!
I love Cosmic Smash. It's up there with Rez on the list of best games ever.
After discovering Rez, I then noticed Cosmic Smash. I managed to import it(read: not very cheap) along with DC-X. I love it. "...Tron meets Breakout" is probably the best description for it.
So I was afraid the Wii was a PS2 or Cube with waggle...now it seems it's a Dreamcast with waggle? I'm actually happier about that :) Just please god, no Shenmue
That video "hipnotized" me. Me like! :-)
One of the BEST. DREAMCAST GAMES. EVER. I am not kidding. Do Jambo Safari next, Sega! I love surprises!
Oh nice, it'd be cool if they remade this. I had alot of fun playing this before.
I've said to many of my friends before that this would be perfect for XBLA or PSN. WiiWare would also be a great fit of course. I just wish they actually added something like multiplayer support in some way. Anyway, I have it for Dreamcast and still play it occasionally. Great stuff.
although this game had a very low budget and independent game vibe to it, it was quite entertaining.
a game like this i highly doubt most publishers would have risked distributing to retail then and even now with all the casual gaming around. they game stinged on the polish.
cosmic smash had a really neat concept and style to it. i would LOVE to see it on Wii.
