@carbonelli: That argument is made for every new console. In 10 years the PS4 will be hacked. Make that PS5 if consoles will still be coming out every 4-5 years or so. Anything that can be engineered can be reverse-engineered, even the PS3.

The only smart thing Sony did to 'deter' pirating this time was releasing all games on Blu-ray. Not that its impossible (movies are already easily copied) its just not cost feasible when drives and blank media are still expensive by comparison.

Don't think for a second that once one of the main motivations for pirating (saving or making $$$) is feasible you won't see a swarm of news on the PS3 being hacked to pieces. Same thing happened to the PS2 once DVD equipment dropped for joe-everyman.

I too have the option to press the L1 to become a zombie. I'm only level 1 and just noticed it about three hours ago after I saw another player running around in his skivvies. I'm not sure if the option was always there or showed up after that game as I only played maybe 3 online matches in public rooms(the rest of my time spent online was just hours in free mode with a few friends). The zombie is pretty neat though regardless of whether it's been there from day one or not.

Please tell me R* listened to my insane idea and have included a secret mode where the population of Liberty City is slowly consumed (ho ho a pun!) into zombies?

This "zombie mod" is grossly offensive to the zombie community. The Association of Metabolically-Challenged Persons Against Harmful Stereotypes, the international lobbying group for zombies, has just released a press statement earlier this morning making clear that they intend to sue Rockstar and Take-Two for perpetuating the stereotypes that have haunted the zombie community for decades. And for not including any zombie prostitutes.

The fact that he got it at level 2 is probably a bug.

The game lockups also seem to be caused by the internet connect, and leaving "automatic login" turned on. At least that seems to be the cause, as everyone turning it off stops having game lockups.

What I suspect is that Rockstar has had to rely on outside teams for these internet/multiplayer pieces. Levels are probably saved on Sony's servers. Internet PSN logins are probably handled by Sony.

Sucks when you have to rely on someone else.

Turn off the automatic sign in, and maybe even disable internet connection during single player.

@SnakeCL: Disable your network connection. Though it should be working fine now. This is assuming you're having the same issues I was.

Hopefully there's a patch coming out VERY soon to fix that little issue up...

Okay I just got this mental image of having the whole of Liberty City facing a zombie infestation a la Dawn Of The Dead, Dead Rising, or 28 Days Later and it was awesome. Can you say 16 player co-op trying to survive and make it from the far side of Alderney to the airport on the other side of the city? It might not fit the story or anything but it would be a killer addition via some DLC.

Guys who have the zombie option; do you also have the acheivement for killing a Rockstar employee online? If it is a "viral" acheivement it would lend credence to the zombie choice. Maybe 360 players get the acheivement while PS3 nubs get to be a zombie.

I notice a of people saying how cool it is to be able to play as a Zombie,and yet when I picked Zombie for the charater draft last weekend, not to many thought it was good.

@SnakeCL: I had this problem. It was with my router. Put your playstation into a DMZ and it should work. You can then take it out of the DMZ but leave the settings that you did on the PS3 to do this still there and it will work from now on. Or it did for me. Search for guides :)

I saw someone with this avatar the other day and didn't think much of it. I just assumed that is was an unlockable costume.

I noticed this option when I first customized my character on ps3 after maybe a couple matches so go figure. I did pwn some n00bs and win a couple deathmatches if that had anything to do with it. Haven't seen any other zombies though. Is there anyone who doesn't have this option?

Further, yes if you configure your ip settings properly, DMZ does wonders for playing online. Be sure to check for your router's proper DNS numbers. Of course, no sooner did I get that going than I was struck with the lock-up issue. Huzzah.

@sc00t420: I played a deathmatch game last night with about 10/12. It was a bit mental. Especially as I foolishly set the options to enable police and 1 second respawn time :D

It's just the luck of the draw whether randoms will join your game or not.

Still not as creepy as running around in GTAIII/Claude's clothing (not sure if it's relevant, since I've yet to leap into multiplayer).

I can't really explain why that freaks me the hell out so much.

I too have had the zombie costume for a while. I can't work out how the rank-up thing works though, and I suspect it is broken.

Anyways, my point is that when you are a zombie, hit L1 during the game to make a zombie groaning noise. Nice.

Trust me 8 people are enough. I think 4 on 4 is fun, but 8 on 8 is crowded. Too many people running around in mission mode at that point. I ran over a hooker I was supposed to be escourting in multiplayer last night! We had a good laugh over it. It gets pretty fast paced, and it's much better with friends than random. :)

That's just the basic Bluray features you could do with any Linux install. That has little to do with cost effectiveness for pirates or even running ISOs pulled off the Bluray. Also you can use the BD over iSCSI, so if you run Linux you can mount the PS3's BD on your Linux PC like it was local.

This would make an excellent idea for downloadable content. A game mode where everyone has to get to Francis Airport from Alderney while escaping from well-endowed zombies and possibly killing each other along the way. Tell me that wouldn't be awesome.
