Rock Band's new in-game store was introduced for two reasons. One was to make things easier for you as a shopper. The other, more important (for MTV/Harmonix) reason was to make sure you just buy more damn songs. Which seems to have worked a treat, because Viacom have announced that ten million Rock Band songs have now been downloaded, up four million from March 20. Which was only a month-and-a-half ago! They also report that they've sold three million copies of the game itself, which when you consider the vast majority of those would have been bundle sales, is a number that must have the accounts types at Viacom, MTV and Harmonix tickled seven shades of pink.

I have added about 6 to those 10 million. With the daily contest they continue to provide the more they are going to be selling. I just wish it was cheaper but understand the cost. I wonder if they will make some songs cheaper as time goes by?
I am guilty of every song that has come out of that 6 mil. Hehe, I mean it is sooo cool to just keep adding on to the game. Makes the replay value so much more especially when playing with a lot of friends. :)
Just before anyone starts doing math, remember theres Wii and PS2 versions out their that have no DLC capabilities so the attach rate is well over 3 songs per game.... continue :|
I wanna see a Queens of the Stone Age or Eagles of Death Metal full-album pack.
I'm actually highly impressed that there's an attach rate of over 3 downloaded songs to every copy of the game. The 10 million number is impressive regardless, but Rock Band seems to have really sold the average consumer on downloadable content, which I think most games have trouble doing.
Buying a few songs now beats the hell out of waiting a year to pay $60 for a bunch of songs that you may not even like.
when those albums start, then you'll see this stuff skyrocket
Well, your assuming that they put out albums everyone's willing to pay 14.99 for. I don't there off to a great start there but let's hope there's better one's planned.
@okenny :): Actually, the Wii version hasn't been released yet. I do get your point though.
@JaggedToaster: Whoa? It hasn't?!! hmmm... oppsie ^_^; I honestly thought it was :( Sorry folks.
I have 51 songs >_> I'm well over the quota. Haha, I have enough songs for nearly 16 people or something.
I finally bought Rock Band a few days ago, along with The Police Pack, the Classic Rock Pack, March of the Pigs and Perfect Drug (I hate The Collector), and My Sharona. Of course, I also downloaded Still Alive.
Also, I got GTA IV today. I seriously can't see myself playing anything other than RB and GTA IV for at least a few weeks.
@justhesh: Personally, I'd like to see some KMFDM and/or MDFMK songs. I'd also *love* to see the song White Rabbit for download; my head would explode thinking about how fun it'd be to play it as a song in Rock Band.
man... I wish there was a japanese version of rock band with super cool jrock songs and such =/ I want some Gackt and Orange Range and stuff XD
I own way too much Rock Band DLC. They just keep releasing quality stuff. Actually, not so much in the last few weeks (and next week)...
@josh924: I had enough KMFDM from Test Drive 5 for PS1.
I ordered mine from the US and have been downloading new songs even though I haven't even played all of the old ones. It is just too hard to pass on Justice for all etc. US economy should get a healthy boost from sales made to the EU countries. Rock Band DLC has been extremely good.
Four million in just a short time isn't much when you consider they released a full album a couple of weeks ago. That makes me responsible for like ten of them. Then again, I'd rather go the DLC route than having to swap out discs to play the couple of different songs I really like. That's right, I'm looking at you GH...
@hrabbit: Agree. Glad to hear there's another Orange Range fan in the house.
@geoffcbassett: Full albums were available last week, at least on the PS3. Judas Priest "Screaming for Vengeance" was available. Awesome album BTW
Make that 3 million and one. My disc cracked and I'm on my way to pick up a replacement tonight.
I've bought a very good portion of the DLC released and I don't regret any of the purchases. It's a little pricey, but it's about the same price as a normal album except that you also get the instrument tracks to play with. I've been meaning to record the music so I can listen to it in the car as well (just record the game while playing vocals and keep the mic and crowd muted).
That being said, the DLC wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable if the game it was for wasn't so spectacular. There is no loss in the quality of notes and animations between the normal and DLC tracks. The only difference I have noticed was that the original tracks have better crowd noise, but this seems to add to the experience by creating more varied crowds (if they're singing along to EVERY song, it just seems wierd).
The fact that DLC truly expands the game experience rather than feeling like a tack-on is what makes this approach so successful.
