Reminder: Team Fortress 2 Free Weekend Underway. If you were planning on kicking some dust around this weekend, your gaming cupboard dry of thrills, remember that Team Fortress 2 is free all weekend. It's got that fancy new Payload game type now, so if you don't mind playing with ten thousand Medics starved for Steam achievements, fire it up. You can't beat the (temporary) price. Details here.

I'm actually surprised i'm not seeing more medics running around. The max i've seen per team is only 5 (out of 16 players). The map is good fun also, love how frantic it can get
Unfortunately I'm going to have a TF2 Free weekend too, just not the same definition. My weekend will be free of TF2.
you mean "you can't BEAT the temporary price" right?
I know I cant Be it..its a monitary value of zero...and i dont want to be zero...that means im nothing and i AM something...
I still prefer TFC... am I gonna be allright?

So that means I can go to my nearby store and pick up the Orange Box for my XBox, walk past the counter with a knowing grin and...
Oh, right. Steam. ;)
I really need to pick up the Orange box again.I had it and played it for a little bit,but this was in the middle of the big bustle of 360 titles.
@Spoony Bard: Just tell the guy at the counter you'll bring it back Monday.
@Spoony Bard:
Ah, digital distribution. If only Steam wasn't so buggy...
@Asfad:
I think I need to be playing on whatever server you're on. Medics seem to be nearing double figures all over the place. I've had to give up playing medic as my backup class because of people grinding for achievements. As a result they're already referring to it as Grind Wowfress 2.
Oh if only they'd held off the class specific achievements until they'd got together achievement sets for the remaining classes, that would have stopped class achievement grinding in its tracks.
@Zak Canard: On second thoughts it probably wouldn't have stopped class grinding, but I can dream can't I?
@Sqwerell:Believe it or not, I have had really good luck with Steam. Now a few years ago, well, that is another matter entirely.
Steam isn't THAT buggy but I understand if the hype for TF2 has died so much that people are unwilling to even give a free weekend a try. Valve are no good at heavy-duty PR anyway.
Goldrush, the new TF2 map is arguably the best map ever made for a first-person shooter. TF2 is seriously like the best game ever =]
@Sqwerell:
2004 buddy, 2004.
i love tf2, as in its the only pc game i play. not played it sense my gfx card died, but kind of glad its busted. I played as the medic 95% of the time, so I shall lets achievement whore get it out of their system before I am back with a new gfx card.
Orange Box keys are about $5 to $10 dollars now.
No reason not to pick up the package.
I would play TF2, but its not really any fun right now with all the achievement whoring. It wouldnt be so bad if the people doing it would actually play there class the proper way to earn the achievements but instead you have fuck tards who hang around in spawn healing afk people and people in spawn so they dont die.
Oh god, the influx of noobs and medic-achievement grinders is crazy. I had to lead a soldier and heavy across half of Gravelpit because they got lost. Then came the medics. When I first joined the server, there were no medics on my team. So being a responsible individual, I went medic for some nice ubercharging. Ten minutes later, the majority of my team is medics. Instead of at least doing something marginally like pulling off chains of ubercharges, or forming healer + bonesaw pairings, they insisted in clumping in a healingball at point A. Point A five minutes ago.
I'm loving this game. A definite purchase. GTAIV will have to wait.
The worse thing about all the new medics is not how many of them there are, it's how many of them keep healing each other while pyros and soldiers run past screaming "MEDIC!". None of them seem to understand that uber = no cap as well.
@Sqwerell: When was the last time you fired up steam? It had its problems a while ago, but they've fixed it up into a pretty smooth experience.
I really think valve dropped the ball on this one. They should either...
a) Limit the new weapon unlock achievements to things that a good medic should already be doing. (They can still leave in the crazy ones, just don't have them affect the weapon unlocks)
or
b) Make the unlocks based on class playtime.
am I the only one who finds the medic pic directly above the wii fit pic amusing?
I don't understand the flock of newbies that show up on the free weekends. I understand they have never played the game before, but I have never, ever seen anyone ask "How to run faster" because they were slower than a scout as a heavy.
I can sympathize with asking how to turn a sentry before you build it. I didn't know you could do that until a month after I started playing. ):(
I DEMAND PYRO GEAR!
I DEMAND IT NOW!
@Fyren: $5 - $10 keys? Why have I never heard of this? I've already looked on eBay and the like... but I didn't see anything. Where should I pick this up?
I wondered why the same 5 scouts kept running at my sentry earlier. The good players are massacring the newbies. It's hilarious.
Also the achievement whores are starting to die down now. Play Hampshire Heavies servers for great justice!

The unlock code was patched less than 16 hours after the initial update. Everyone who used it also had their medic achievements reset to zero. Have to agree though, the game is not fun to play right now with all of the medic whores. Hit me up with a friend invite (same name) on steam. :>
@GustoGaiden:
Steam's still a bit buggy for me, though not as startlingly terrible as when it was new. It's still not a service I would choose to use, but sometimes it's the only option. Like now, for the TF2 weekend.
I've been playing it, and I think it might be fun. I don't know. It will definitely take some getting used to, and strategy-learnin' but once I figure out how best to play, I think I would enjoy it. But years of playing FPS's mostly on consoles has crippled my mouse/keyboard instincts. I might go with the 360 version if I do get it. I heard it had some issues when it came out, is it working any better these days?
The nice thing about the free weekend was being on top of the scoreboard all night.
The not so nice thing:
Pyro and heavy who each have medics on them at 100% ubercharge rush in to bust up a defensive knot. Engi who is standing by his dispenser *and* has a medic humping his leg already yells "medic!" Now he's got three on him, and pyro and heavy are dead.
