Here's one future Wii Virtual Console update I cannot wait to write up. The ESRB has recently posted a rating for the classic Super Nintendo RPG EarthBound for the Nintendo Wii. The sequel to the Japanese-only game Mother, the game tells the story of Ness and company as they fight to gather the powers of the Earth to defeat the evil alien Giygas. With a compelling humor, an original setting, and some damn fine graphics for a Super Nintendo game, EarthBound is widely considered to be one of the greatest role-playing games of all time...and now it is rated E for Everyone. There really is only one reason an older game gets a Wii rating via the ESRB, so expect EarthBound to arrive on the Wii Virtual Console sometime in the near future.

Well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who checks the ESRB site. And that totally rocks. Usually when they put up the ratings the game follows really soon. I sincerely hope it is sometime in early May (aka this upcoming Monday).
I've had 600 points sitting in my account balance since they released Super Mario Bros. Lost Levels.
This is FANTASTIC news for me, as I was just contemplating spending them on a game I was lukewarm about.
Though I still need to invest in a few more for this and Super Metroid.
*faints, wakes up, then faints again* the only thing that could make this any better is if they would release Secret of Mana on the same day.... but I don't think my heart could take that much excitement.

Could this mean Mother 3(Earthbound 3)is coming soon? Nintendo may be trying to build up to this highly anticipated game.Would they do a DS release?

I've never played the game, but I'm just as excited as you guys are, since I heard so much about the game and I applaud unique ideas.

Wow, I may actually buy a Wii just so I can download Earthbound and play it again.
Considering my cartridge of the game was stolen years and years ago I would think that it would be a 250$ game well spent.
If this isn't available in the UK, someone's gonna get raped.
Not being a downer here, I just am not gonna get my hopes up for it. I'm still waiting for Mario RPG and that was added to the ESRB a year ago I think. Hopefully this one comes true, but I'll be surprised if it does. NOA hates Earthbound, just take a look at the MAsterpieces in brawl and the lack of one for earthbound in the american version.

As much as I want to be optimistic about this, I have to see it before I can believe it. Us EB fans have been denied time and time again, so at this point I'm going to need more to go on before I 100% believe it.

Possibly my favorite game ever made. I just played through it again a month or two ago, but I will buy the shit out of this just to prove a point.
I haven't bought anything on the V.C. in a while...but I will be buying this THE DAY it is released. Such an amazing game.
Guess I'll buy this, if onloy out of false hope that if they get enough sales they'll bring over the GBA ports and the third.

There was a VC reader poll in Nintendo Power not too long ago for people to vote on what titles they would like to see, and EarthBound was at the top of the list. More exciting than that, though, was that freakin' MOTHER was #4, right ahead of Majora's Mask.
Here's hoping NOA stops ignoring us MOTHER/EarthBound fans ;_;

This is great news! I hope enough people purchase it. Perhaps it'll give Nintendo some incentive to release a Mother compilation on the DS for the West.

I just finished playing through Earthbound recently so I'll be buying my copy just to promote sales in hopes of a Mother 3 incentive.
