In the past, Grand Theft Auto's been severely criticized for being too violent. The new version, it's been toned down a lot, I think in reaction to the criticism.I'm not sure it's better. Take a look.
Well, it's certainly more polite.
Conan Reveals [GameRush Thanks, CORN!]

Comments
As violent as you want it to be.
now, if only there was a way to have a puppy to walk around with
The irony is, if I really wanted to, I could play it *exactly* like that.
Looks like Rockstar should place a label on that verison of the game that says: Abandon all hope ye who playeth this game
Right. That's why I don't watch those crappy shows.
When I played Vice City for the first time I totally played the game like this. I obeyed very law there was... it just got old and boring after a while. It stated with running red lights and went down hill from there.
I still don't car jack though. I only steal parked cars. ^_^
Heh, nice. Life in Liberty City is not as bad as people make it to be.
Yay, it got posted. :D
At least it wasn't another "this game was created by satan to train mini-satans" tv segment. I wish everyone else approached the game with that much humor....you know the way it was intended....
"We're sorry, this video is no longer available."
Anyone got an alternate link?
lol good to see it on a network that isnt hating on GTA
@Dontdrop: It's working for me. Did you just try to play the embedded video?
GTA on tv not being portrayed badly?! Is the world going to end?!
None of the lights I go through are green! Why? When they are green, the other traffic is running red lights! And blowing horns at me!
(pushed a cop yesterday and he pulled his gun on me...so I took it and shot him. Copters, boats, SWAT and ***** was all I got before "fatty McCop" shot me in an alley)
I thought they would just play a clip of the hour I spent taking Michelle on dates. Not too far off. Great vid, though. Tootsie sndtrk ftw
@ViperBorg: conan is far from crappy. you ever watch Carson Daly?
Has anyone else (and I mean the non-psychopaths among us) noticed that it seems a bit more.... wrong to just run around killing everything in sight in GTA IV?
The first time I went on a rampage I stood on a street, and fired into an oncoming car. The car skidded into a lamppost and the injured woman staggered out, fell face first through the window of her opened door, and kind of writhed there, reaching out to me for help. I kind of felt bad.
I reflected for a brief moment before firing two additional shotgun blasts into the back of her head. As she lay sprawled out on the road, I emptied a couple more rounds into her to make sure she was dead. It just seemed like the humane thing to do at that stage.
As her brains oozed all over the pavement, I kind of wished I could apologise and take it all back.
There is a reason why this man holds a Harvard degree and started from the gutter to his success. Conan realizes the extreme controversy behind this game, he must also understand the psyche of the entertainment medium.
I am more keen to Conan because he seem to encompass it all, whether good or bad; and uses the right satirical outlet.
I wish some of the latest bash-GTAIV-bandwagoners could at least say " I have played the game throughly as intended". Not one of them have even delved into it. If you ignore all the hookers, senseless killing, and strictly follow the storyline; the level of violence and script rivals a similar film genre.
I. Love. Spring! Amazing. I wish I had Tivo to watch Conan or the ability to stay up past 9.
@cordsie: Hilarious post.
I haven't played it yet but have considered that the relatively realistic euphoria engine may induce some form of guilt when running down pedestrians.
@cordsie: Agreed. In my first 5 minutes of playing, I was tooling around town just to have a look see and I rear ended another vehicle and the lady staggered out on fire and writhed on the ground in flames. I'm more of a carreer gal than senseless violence type of GTA player in any case. This version, I expect I'll bee even more so.
career
Lol, Classic Conan O'Brien. The element of truth to this is that you can play the game however you want.
@waterhand: Happens to you too huh? I'm only 30 too... if it wasn't for that damned job (Which I'm thankful to God for) then I wouldn't have to wait for the weekend (tonight) to start playing GTA4. LOL, you don't know how many Iron Man movie invites I've avoided to do this... I guess Hollywood was right. I really wanted to see that movie too :(
@hondo: I did my first carjacking 3 min into playing the game. A guy ran a red light while I was crossing the street (when I'm allowed by the law to) and ran me over then had the nerve to yell at me.
I carjacked his car immediately after
Glad to see GTA not getting ripped for it's violence.
Pity that clip wasn't the slightest bit funny...
I guess my British sense of humor overrules most American topical comedy. HIGNIFY FTW.
@cordsie: you should've hijacked and ambulance and taken her to the hospital.
but yeah, killing her was probably the better thing to do.
Heh, I chuckled at little bit. It really does showcase why I like playing GTA, rather than committing crimes.
@Fyren:
I still dislike the fact that he's taller than both Colbert and Stewart <_<
As what's been stated by many others though, the fact that you can play the game like so is what I enjoy the most out of this vid (and the series). That said, I'm still all for the violence and crime, if only because I don't want this game to turn into the Sims (like how San Andreas was).
I wonder if being able to, err, tap your feet both ways (in the "I love Spring" segment) is some sort of advancement in GTA IV. In the previous ones the main characters always jumped forward awkwardly in the same way...
@Fyren:
Starting from "the gutter" seems more than a bit over the top considering his father is a doctor and his mother is a psychiatrist. He came from a very rich area of Boston as well. Not exactly "gutter" though I do enjoy his zaniness. I think his writers are crap though, he's funnier without them.
@DugDawg:
Well, you can play it any way you want... but to do so, you have to ignore the missions and story progression.
If you tried to play the missions in a totally pacifistic way, I doubt you would get far.
@hondo: I still don't car jack though. I only steal parked cars. ^_^
I still find it amazing that with all the crime in the cities of GTA, people are still so willing to leave their cars unlocked.
And considering how quickly you can get in and start a car...it's like they leave their keys with it.
Man, maybe it was never really stealing after all. It's just R* promoting the concept of community vehicles and the honor system.
Take the car where you need to go and then it there for the next person. Though to be honest, half the time any car I was driving wound up exploded or in the river...
@Hendrixx: No, it just wasn't that funny, honestly.
But on the other hand, your sense of humor would be quiet different, I just find most British comedy boring, and I'm sure you find most american... ah, its all about how one is raised. Heh.
Let's just say mainstream videogame jokes are still in the prototype stage. Anyone succeeding Conan will get it dead on.
@cordsie: Yes, I've found the same. I have to get myself into the right mindset or I can't really enjoy going on a rampage. They only tend to start when I'm frustrated now, I don't find it as fun to start one just for the sake of it.
The first time I knifed a guy and he limped away clutching his wound, I felt bad. Like bad IRL.
Hehe, Funny stuff. I would rather spend my time causing a HAVOC
That was hysterical.
"I.... Love.... SPRINGTIME!"
Hehe..Fun times.
The media, regarding Grand theft auto, is like my girlfriend.
It's all indignation and vocal reprimand.
But once she gets the controller in her hands, the first thing she asks is:
"How do I get a gun?"
should the text in the yellow section not be in quotes? anyway.... I need to put my vote for GTA to win worlds most shit driving controls. Oh it also wins the horrible camera award too.
@janine:
How'd she burst into flames? Was she driving a Pinto?
Better than I thought it was going to be. It made me smile.
What?? I need sheets!
@Marlor: In fact, you'd get stuck almost immediately. Not to give away any spoilers, but within the first 12-13% of the game, there are at least two missions with the explicit requirement that you kill people.
Granted, they're supposedly "bad" people, but what you're killing them for isn't even close to the level of a crime that'd get them the death penalty from the state, and in any case, it's still vigilante justice.
Gamers need to just admit that GTA is a violent series. You can't play it "any way you want". That's like saying you can play Ace Combat without firing any weapons. Sure, you *can*, but you're not really playing the game as it's designed and you're not gonna get anywhere that way.
@teh_joe:
You can call 911 if you want to as well.
@Pezdispenser: A mock Corvair perhaps. "Unsafe at any speed".
Really bad close range draw-in during the "I love springtime" scene at about 0:38
I actually lol'd at that video. But not more than I lol when I hit a car on its side with a bus and the driver dies smashing his head on the steering wheel.
Man. I really laugh a lot while playing this game, simply because of all the crazy random stuff that happens. It's hilarious at times. Like, when you steal a taxi and the cocky driver wants to pull you out of the car to beat you up, but as he tries to you start driving and he holds onto your door, then you smash him against the nearest car in front of you? Golden.
It's just a game, I'm not really that much of a psychopath.
I
LOVE
SPRINGTIME!!
WHA'HEEEE!
LOL! Funny stuff.
Great. Love Conan.
Wow, now it's totally ready for the Wii.
Ha, love conan. man makes me smile every time.
@Candlejack: Dude, Multiplayer is even better. The first few games I played were nothing but hysterical laughter the entire time.
Wasn't really that funny, but the singing part made me smile.
@HfAsianInvasion: I hear that. I've played a couple of hours with a mate or two in Free Mode which was insane. We got on a bike (the fast one) with both of us and just burned some fuel, then at high speed we crashed into a pole and flew about 50 metres through the sky.
not very funny....
@Candlejack: Ah man that happened to me!! the cabbie held on for dear life by the side of the door so I swerved around and it sent him flying rolling along the street!
It's good to see that Conan it not taking GTA4 to serious like everyone else. LOL but it is true Niko's jumps are kinda funny.
ROFLOL "Is that the theme from Tootsie?"
Haha, that was cute. :D Yay, Conan :D
Yeah seriously, the first time I lit a car on fire and the guy came out running around in flames I felt bad for him!
@Candlejack: Oh man - I was driving, hit a tree - flew out of the from window AND KILLED SOMEONE.
this game needs a record option so bad.
Conan '08
"My Trip to Liberty City" is along the same lines, but (I thought) much funnier.
[www.archive.org]
Ahh that was good, I was hoping for something a bit funnier but still good.
lol @ I.. Love... Springtime!!
